Hi,

when we try to let a link in an image map open in a new window, this setting won't save. Links in image maps always open in the same window (RadE 4.5.3.0).

Is this a known bug? Any fix for that?

Regards,

Robert

Hi Robert,

Could you please open a support ticket and send us more information about your exact scenario - screenshots that demonstrate the problem, the exact steps to reproduce the behavior, the editor's configuration?

Once we are able to reproduce the issue on our side, we will do our best to provide a solution.

Sincerely,
George

The problem is from SharePoint. In a publishing page if you have a RAD editor where you add text to the top of the page and you add an image map with a target SharePoint removes this attribute from the HTML when you click Ok and the content is saved to the SharePoint database!

Steps to reproduce:
  1. Edit a publishing page in SharePoint that has the Telerik Rad Editor for editing the text in the page.
  2. Click the Image Map button and select an image.
  3. Create an image map and specify a url for the image map and set the target to 'New Window' and click OK on the dialog.
  4. Click the HTML view button for the Telerik Rad Editor and confirm that the target HTML attribute has been added to the AREA html element.
  5. Publish the page and test that when you click the link it opens in the same window.
  6. Edit the page and view the HTML in the Telerik Rad Editor to see that the target attribute has been removed from the AREA html element.

Please see screenshots attached (This is using Telerik 4.4.1.0).

Hi Andy Layzell,

Unfortunately, this seems to be yet another problem, caused by the MOSS content filter. When you submit the page, MOSS will validate it and automatically make changes if the content is not valid. You can verify this by trying to enter the same content with the original SharePoint rich text editor.
We have not been able to find a workaround for this behavior yet.

Best wishes,

Thanks for the prompt response Stanimir .

Is this something that you can take up with Microsoft to resolve the issue? It seems very clear that this is a bug with MOSS and that they should fix it? I thought Telerik would have a better response to requests than for me to raise it?

Thanks,
Andy

Hi Andy,

Unfortunately this behavior is not considers as a bug. This is the way that the content filters of MOSS are designed to work. Microsoft are limiting the inserted in the MOSS content so it fits some guidelines, and unfortunately a lot of properties and special tags are not considered friendly with these guidelines.

Sincerely yours,

Hi Stanimir,

Has a workaround/solution been made for this issue? Is there any code we can add so that the link destination opens up in a new window if that option is selected?

Thanks,
Claudz

Hello claudz,

There is no workaround for this behavior RadEditor for MOSS can not control SharePoint's filters, which are applied on the server.

Hi,

I encounter the same problem with the image map editor ('target' is systematically stripped when saving the containing page).
Is there any workaround to solve this problem in order to use this basic functionality ?

Please note that it does not seem to be a Sharepoint problem: when you use the standard SharePoint content editor, the 'target' attribute of the <area> control is never stripped.

Regards,
Sebastien
