I just installed the new 2010 Q3 version and I cannot find the project update program. Am I missing something? How to I convert my VS2010 project from using Telerik controls 2010 Q2 to 2010 Q3 without removing and adding the referenences manually?

Thanks

Nevermind, I found it. The upgrade.exe program is located in the Winforms/Tools/Release directory. However, I didnt have a menu selection from the Telerik installation.

Hi Eddie,

You have correctly noticed, that our upgrade utility is still available.

In addition to the upgrade utility, you can use the Upgrade Wizard available with our Visual Studio Extensions. All you need to do is right-click a project using RadControls for WinForms within Visual Studio and select RadControls for Winform->Upgrade Wizard.

Sincerely yours,
Andrey

I have just installed RadControls for WPF Q3 2010 and can't find the upgrade.exe utility anywhere. Also, the VS extensions have not been installed correctly so I can't upgrade my project within VS. When I try to run the VS extensions utility manually I get an error stating that I need to uninstall the old version first (2009.3) using the Add/Remove Programs in Windows. However, I can't see this, or any, version of the VS extensions listed so I can't uninstall.

Help please!

Hi Brian Scott,

There is no "upgrade.exe" utility for RadControls for WPF. The only automated upgrade mechanism for RadControls for WPF is the Upgrade Wizard available through our Visual Studio Extensions. You can read more in our Online documentation:
Upgrading to a new RadControls distribution

The Visual Studio Extensions upgrade issue you mention is caused by an omission in our Q1 2010 release. It has already been addressed in our latest releases.

In order to update the Visual Studio Extensions related to our Q1 2010 release, you could perform the following steps:

  • Start Windows Explorer and navigate to [VisualStudio2010InstallDIr]\Common7\IDE\Telerik
  • Delete the Telerik.Windows.WPF.VSPackage folder
  • Start Visual Studio 2010 and load the Extension Manager
  • Click the Online Gallery entry in the panelbar in the left-hand side of the Extension Manager
  • Search for "telerik vsextensions" via the search box in the upper right-hand side
  • Install the Telerik WPF VSExtensions package

Please, do not hesitate to contact us if you experience any further issues.

Andrey

OK, I did as you said, except that the Telerik extensions folder was a subfolder under Extensions. I was able to install the WPF VSextensions ok, however the Telerik menu in VS now just contains 'Create New Telerik Project' and 'Launch Toolbox Configurator' menu items under 'RadControls for WPF'. I don't see any option to upgrade my current project in this menu, nor from the popup menu when right-clicking on the project in solution explorer.

The project I am trying to upgrade was created manually (i.e. not via the Telerik menu) and then the required Telerik controls added in after. Is the upgrade utility only available for projects created via the 'Create New Telerik Project' menu item in the Telerik menu, or should it be available for all projects irrespective of how they were created?

Hello Brian Scott,

You should be able to use the Upgrade Wizard when your currently selected project in the Solution Explorer is a WPF Application or WPF Browser Application project which has references to RadControls.

What about when it's a WPF Class library, as it is in my case? I have a number of custom user controls in this project that use telerik controls as part of their UI.

Thanks, at least I now know that a manual upgrade is my only option, for the time being at least. :(
