Prevent postback when clicking search

Hi, I'm trying to execute a client script when the search button is clicked, and I found the "OnClientSearch" event, but... I cannot find a way to prevent the postback from occurring. How do I prevent postback when I click the search button? It seems like it should be obvious, but I just can't find it.
