Hi

I was wondering if there is a way by which I can display the original image in a new window when the user clicks on the image in side the GridBinaryImageColumn?

If there was an event like onlick associated with the GridBinaryImageColumn then this problem could have been solved.

Regards

Dana

Hello Dana,

I created simple runnable project that demonstrates how to attain the desired functionality without OnClick event.

I hope this helps.

Thanks Daniel for the reply

Indeed we can use this method, but the disadvantage is that the picture is not a thumbnail of the original image as in the GridBinaryImageColumn, i.e, if I have a grid of 10 rows or more with  10 images of 100Kb each, then I have to download 1Mb of data.

Where as in the GridBinaryImageColumn, each of these images will be reduced dramatically in size and hence less data to download.

Any alternatives?

Regards

Dana

Hello Dana,

Did you notice that the images are loaded on-demand? Please examine the following link:

Yes, but that does not apply in the grid case.

When having a grid that have for example 10 rows with 10 images, then all 10 images will be displayed in each of the 10 rows scaled down in terms of displaying purposes but not in terms of actual size.

Where as in the GridBinaryImageColumn the same scenario will produce scaled down images in terms of displaying  and size.

Try it and try to save a single image from each case and see the difference.

Hello Dana,

Thank you for the clarification. RadBinaryImage will have the functionality in question (similar to the GridBinaryImageColumn) in the next release of RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX - Q2 SP1 which is expected by the end of this week.

Kind regards,
