I just read through the Q2 2011 roadmap article, and I was disappointed that Telerik is not planning to improve the filtering features on rad grid.

The lack of a really good filtering capabilitiy, such as found in Excel or Telerik's WPF grid, is the single most glaring drawback of this otherwise excellent control.  I get negative feedback on the subject from users, which prompts me to look elsewhere, e.g. WPF, when developing a data visualization tool.

I know, there is an artcle that shows you how to customize the grid for filtering, and the effect is not bad.  But it is too much work for a feature that ought to be built-in.  If they can make it work in custom code, why can't they just make it a property of the grid?

Hello Robert,

Have you looked at the Header context filter menu feature of the grid - it goes to some extent in the direction you are pointing to:
http://demos.telerik.com/aspnet-ajax/grid/examples/generalfeatures/headercontextfiltermenu/defaultcs.aspx

Other than that, our development team is considering improving the grid filtering with a load on demand box with check-boxes for all columns (such as in Excel), however, it is planned for the third quarter release this year as more important tasks were given priority for the second Q release.

I am not asking Telerik to improve grid filering as a favor to me.  It is in Telerik's interests to do so in order to make the product competitive with other data visualization tools.  As for priorities, I see significant effort being spent on interactive features targeted to the social network developer.  The feature I am asking for is business-oriented.  So long as business applications continue to be Telerik's preferred target they should be developed at a very high competitive standard.

Hi Robert,

Thanks for sharing your standpoint - actually, it is the one Telerik is striving to achieve and we do realize that in the case of RadGrid's filtering there is room for improvement targeted at more business oriented users.

All the best,
