Hello Martin,

We announced the support for this browser in RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX Q1 2009 SP1 (2009.1.402)
Note that Internet Explorer 8 RTM was released officially on March 19.

So the answer is no then.

Given that IE 8 is a standards complient browser why do your controls before Q1 2009 not work with IE 8.

What do you surgest your clients do who are not able to upgrade to the latest realse of your components?

Hi Martin,

As already stated, the version that you use is not fully compatible wit IE8 Standards mode. Please update to at least Q1 2009 SP1 and let us know how it goes. Of course, if you can't upgrade, everything will work OK with <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=7" />.

Sincerely yours,
Paul

What do you suggest your clients who are not able to upgrade to the latest release of your components?

Have you tested , <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=7" /> does not work.

Please try answering the question directly and not side stepping the issue.

Hello Martin,

Please excuse me if my explanation was not clear enough.

Lets start again with some history notes:
RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX 2008.3 1314 was released on Jan 13
Internet Explorer 8 Release Candidate was released on Jan 26
Internet Explorer 8 RTM was released on Mar 26

As you properly noticed, it is not possible for this old version of RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX to claim to support a browser, that is officially introduced two months after its actual release.

Now, straight onto your question "What do you suggest your clients who are not able to upgrade to the latest release of your components?"

We strongly recommend all customers to upgrade to Q1 2009 SP1 (and later) since the earlier versions are not fully compatible with Internet Explorer 8. Another option would be to try the compatibility options provided by Microsoft (as suggested by Paul).

I recommend you read the following blog post:
Introducing IE=EmulateIE7

Thank you for your understanding, I hope the provided information is helpful.

Best regards,

So your answer to your clients about the incomparability of your components with a standards based web browser, the most compliant Microsoft has ever release and i may add was available in Private Beta from February 2008. Your answer to your loyal clients is 'Sorry Mate, we are not going to help. Fork out for the latest release and thats it'.

How many of you competition would take this attitude, how many of your competitions component suits are totally broken in IE 8?

Hi Martin,

We are sorry to hear about your frustration.

Let me answer your initial question in simple words - no, RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX v.2008.3 1314 is not fully compatible with IE8 Standards mode.

If you cannot upgrade to Q1 2009 SP1 (or later) you can use the provided by Microsoft meta tag - <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=EmulateIE7" />. BTW, this meta tag works as expected - you can browse mono.telerik.com which still uses RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX v.2008.3 1314. If you load this page under IE8, you will see the browser is forced to switch to Compatibility View mode.

On aside note, during the time v2008.3 1314 was released, IE8 was still in beta stage. And as it is explitly stated in out  Browser support article, "browsers in BETA stage are not supported".

Kind regards,
Paul
