I am currently running a 2.0 Framework website with RadControls for ASP.NET Q2 2008 Telerik controls.
I would like to use RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX. I need a step by step details of how to convert to this new version that we currently own but can't get to work.

Thanks,
Ryan

Hi Ryan,

The RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX suite is build upon the MS AJAX Framework and in order to use them you have to install the ASP.NET AJAX .

When you use VS 2005 and you should download the AJAX Extensions (http://www.asp.net/ajax/), a new kind of  WebSite is available for creation - when you go to File/New/WebSite an "AJAXEnabledWebSite" option is added to the dialog box. That is the right kind of application you should use.

If you are using VS 2008, you do not need to install additionally ajax - it goes built in with the VS 2008.

In case you want to use RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX in an already existing WebSite I suggest to create a new project in the right VS and copy its web.config's content in your current web.config. Please note, that after that you should add the assemblies' references, ConnectionStrings (if any) and all other previously made by you modifications.

After that you should examine all the control's "Changes and Backward Compatibility" section (e.g for RadWindow it is here - http://www.telerik.com/help/aspnet-ajax/window_overviewchanges.html) and change teh client-side API methods in teh naming convention which is shown there. After you do this, everything should work.

I understand that upgrading to the ajax version takes some time and effort but I strongly recimmend it because the benefits are much bigger than the inconveninece.

I hope that my explanations are detailed enough and helpful, let me know how it goes.

All the best,
