I tried this - there is a limit of 3 sorting columns saved. If I select a sort on 4 columns only 3 are persisted. Is that the way it is supposed to work?

Hello Zed,
I could not reproduce this problem with the code library example. All four sorting orders are persisted as expected. However, do note that on clicking the button, the first column of the corresponding grid is being hidden - this is done on purpose, to demonstrated the application logic. If by not being persisted you mean the column disappearing, you just need to remove the statement from the button click handler that hides the column.

Why isn't this class distributed with the Telerik library, wouldn't that be much easier on everyone???

Application scenarios like the one in question are a great number and, hence, we try to integrated only those that are really of top most importance to our customers. Keeping RadGrid's code as light as possible is also a priority.
