Searching the forums seems quite cumbersome. The following are major issues that I am encountering and would like to know if there are workarounds.

  1. Non-Search Navigation Speed - Search speed seems reasonable but navigating forum pages is slow. Navigating from forum page to page takes about 3-5 seconds. What I mean by this is click the Grid forum link (5 seconds)...click a search result (5 seconds)...go back a page (5 seconds.)
  2. Date Range / Sort - There is no ability to search any date range or sort. Posting dates are in no particular order. I understand it is probably presenting what is thought to be the best result; however, it almost always presents pages of posting from 10 years ago that are not relevant.
  3. Initial Result Text Not Useful - Very frequently the peek result starts with "Join a community of over 2.6m developers to have your questions answered on"

Hello John,

Thanks for your feedback regarding the Telerik Forums.

Regarding points 1) and 2) - we will take it into consideration in our future releases. Point 3) is not an expected behavior - it would be helpful if you could provide a few search queries that are returning such results, so that we can further investigate.

Once again thanks for taking the time to share your feedback with us.

Nikolay,

Thanks for the response.

The following search of 'width' in the grid forum produces this behavior. The attached picture highlights what I am referring to.

Hi John,

Thanks for the details provided.

We analyzed the search behavior with the provided keywords.

Indeed most of the results` quotes are containing the message that we are using for Page description - "Join a community of over 2.6m developers....". The reason behind this is that in the case of searching for a single word or a few words - for example 'width" or 'filter width' - if those words are contained in the forum thread title, the search engine determines it as the most important part of the page. In this case it is displaying the title as a search result title, and since it would be meaningless to repeat it in the quotation part, it is using the second best match from the page. This is the page description, because we are using the whole title text when building it.

Our suggestion would be to use more explanatory language in your search terms, so that you can get more relevant matches from the forum posts.
