Hi,
Since upgrade to Q2 2013 version of Telerik, we get messages from our users who haves issue with exporting of WebGrid to Excel from IE. It don't matter which contents the Excel haves, it will produce a corrupt file 1 of 5 times.

I have tried it from your demos and can reproduce it here as well, but with a little different.
http://demos.telerik.com/aspnet-ajax/grid/examples/export/biffexport/defaultcs.aspx

- Do the first export to Excel
- Choose to open the Excel file (not download/save)
- Keep the Excel window open
- Do export to Excel again
- Open the export file
- It looks it exported the menu left, not the content from the grid.

Do this multiple times until you get it.

Known issue?

Kind regards,
Jelle

Hello Jelle,

I am not sure which version of IE browser you are using but I was not able to replicate the issue on my side. I prepared a video which demonstrates the taken steps in order to reproduce the issue. Please check it out and let me know if I am doing something not right.

Hi Jelle,

Could you please verify that this issue is only reproducing in IE browser? I would suggest you to try setting OpenInNewWindow property to true and check whether the issue remains. Keep in mind that Internet Explorer renders the html different from the rest of the browsers and this causes some issues.

Yes, don't happens in Chrome and FireFox.
It seems Excel is opening XLS files while opening exports from Chrome and FireFox but the exports from IE will open defaultcs.aspx instead a XLS file. It works fine when choose to save the file to the disk and open it after, not when opening from IE browser directly.

I have to create a test project to test if the OpenInNewWindow property will fixes this. Don't have time by now, will let you know.

Hello Jelle,

I used the code from the example and prepared a small sample which I have attached to this forum thread. Could you please give it a try and let me know whether the issue remains?

I am looking forward to your reply.

Hi,

I have used your test project and setted OpenInNewWindow property to true. Tested again in IE and seems it fixes this. This property will force IE to download XLS file instead of ASPX file. I had exported it multiple times and no strange behavior anymore. So the issue will happens when exporting from page itself.

Thanks for your help.
Kind regards,
Jelle
