Is it possible to have a column span multiple columns only when in edit mode? Something like a property of the EditItemTemplate to tell the column to span multiple columns.

Hello Joe,
Please take a look at the Edit Form with Multiple Columns demo to see how the desired functionality can be implemented.

I'm using the InPlace EditMode so that demo doesn't really apply. I need each control to exist under it's column header but there are 3 columns that are grouped into one combo box. I want that combo box to span all 3 columns.
Any other ideas?
