I'm a little surprised there is no way to default this information.  I can understand letting the user edited what is being sent but in my case what is being shared is the result of tasks they have completed and the user really doesn't have easy access to all the data.

I hope that this functionality is being considered. ( or that I'm wrong and it can be defaulted )

Hi Andy,

You can preset the content to a certain extend by setting the TitleToShare and UrlToShare properties. Please keep in mind that once the given social network receives the URL it is up to its own logic to request the page and determine the exact content from it that will be shown. Usually this is set by using certain meta tags from the OpenGraph protocol which should be defined by the developer.

We are currently working on a client-side API that will allow  you to change the shared strings (URL and title) and this functionality will be available shortly with the Q1 2012 BETA release.

If this is not what you intend/need please explain your scenario in greater detail so we can understand it better and see how it fits in the concept of the control.

I want to do something like what Amazon does.  When you buy something from Amazon the comment is something like:

"I just bought so and so from Amazon"  The user doesn't type in anything.

They are sharing an action and information... not really a webpage.

Another example is Facebooks own game shares.  The user doesn't type in how many points they scored in a game... the Facebook App generates the comment.

In my case I have a goal tracking website.  There is not specific webpage to share.  The user is sharing progress and accomplishments that have been generated over time.  In fact the only public facing URL is the home page.

The amount and type of information and analytics  the user might want to share is not something necessarily they will have on hand.

For a simplistic example:

They have a weight loss goal.

On their daily goal update they update that they lost 2 pounds on the website.

It's unlikely they want to share that detail but they might want to share:

"I just had my 3rd day in a row of weight loss"
"I am 60% of the way to accomplishing my weight loss goal"
"I just achieved my 'Lose 10 pounds in May' in 11 days early.

The user defined their level of sharing at a profile level... which then can be over witten at a goal level... and of course at a share level.  At a group level the group leader defines the sharing within the group and potentially with the groups facebook page.

Preferably the title would be the goal and the comment would be pre-filled based on the users perferences.

I might be able to 'fake' it by putting all the info in the title but will probably try to roll my own for facebook/twitter.

Hi Andy,

Thank you for your feedback and detailed explanation. I have logged this information in our database. I am sorry to say, though, that for the time being this functionality is not in our plans, as it falls outside of the scope of the control. Nevertheless, if enough requests for such functionality are received we will consider its implementation.

Yes please. I would definitely like to see this added. Without it - like Andy - the share functionality is not able to do what I need. I have rolled my own so I can use that without any extra effort however I wanted to standardise on Telerik where possible for consistency.
I would also be grateful if Telerik would incorporate integrated login (oauth etc).

Hi Stephen,

Thank you for your feedback. The predefined content sharing is still considered out of the scope of the RadSocialShare control and currently we do not plan to implement it. We have added your vote to our internal tracking system, yet this doesn't seem to be a commonly requested feature, as you are the second person to ask for it (after the creator of the thread). The same applies for the login - it could become a separate control if enough requests are received, yet so far this is not the case. We are tracking the activity about these two options and they become popular in the community we will consider their implementation.
