Can I use Telerik asp.net ajax in Microsoft Web Developer (the free ASP.NET application ), and if so, are there any limitations.? I'm going after a one page app with RadGrid and a few forms.

Thanks

New and will hiring a developer, but want to follow along and learn.

Hi Victor,

Microsoft Visual Web Developer is supported development platform as specified on this page.

Kind regards,

Thanks, I saw that and as far as servers are concerned WDE includes the latest server for development, I'm going ISP so I'm good there. But that references makes no mention to Microsoft Web Developer 2010, I do see Visual Studio (again no mention of express) after installing ASP.NET. AJAX.

Is there any chance that "Microsoft Web Developer 2010" includes ASP.NET AJAX, allowing me to download and use Telerik ASP.NET AJAX Rad controls? If so will Telerik's .exe simply install?

Best case would be an easy .exe Telerik install, Worst case would be dying of 1000 cuts.

Hello Victor,

Our AJAX controls provide separate installer and are not dependent from the Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2010 installation. Our components are built on top of ASP.NET AJAX the installation of the ASP.NET AJAX framework is a prerequisite for them to work properly.

I don't know what made me think Telerik controls were going to be listed in the toolbox under JS, but now it makes sense. On Friday one of my customers created a RadGrid as a demonstration and it took her 20 minutes!

According to MS Web Platform installer under frameworks I have ASP.NET installed already, but still no mention of ASP.NET AJAX? Is that going to work or do you have a link that specifically is for "ASP.NET AJAX"?

Sorry for the lengthily discussion, not a developer here, but can build a site using Visual Web Developer and am willing to demo then buy if I can make it work. Some of the bids I've gotten for a developer to get a page up with a tab bar and data grid cost much more that the cost of Telerik.

Hello Victor,

If you install ASP.NET framework 3.5 or later it includes by default the AJAX extensions. With previous versions you need to install the ASP.NET AJAX 1.0 extensions separately (downloading them from Microsoft's asp.net site).

Yep. I found out, it's an extension, not ASP.NET AJAX, and it's included the the ASP.NET AJAX Telerik trial. Now assuming MWD's SQL server will work I'm good to go. Now I have to figure out how to start Telerik ASP.NET AJAX because it's not in MWD under JS tools or in Visual Studio as an Ajax extension.

Been trying to download the documentation pdf, but your serves keeps stalling out after it gets 90% done.

Hi Victor,

Our AJAX controls should be listed under e separate toolbox tab which is added during the installation from .exe file automatically. Still you can insert them manually in the toolbox following the steps from this topic.

Yes, we have liftoff!

It didn't work as the instructions said, you may want to amend them. I attempted to drag the .dll to the general tab but that wasn't happening.

The part that needs adding is what to do after you windows explorer to find it. Just double click accept the error and do a find from installed apps and pick the one (not Visual Studio) that makes reference to the web or tools (can't remember). Then restart Visual Studio and there it is just like I originally thought.

I'll even bet if someone investigated RadTools could be installed in Microsoft Visual Web Developer (it includes visual studio express). Yes that's a suggestion that might just sell more Telerik.

A few weeks ago a developer introduced me to Telerik, it took her half an hour to make a RadGrid (using some data that she had) and was able to configure it as I ask her in real time!

Thanks.
