Any plans for "trendy" skins?

Hi! RadWindow is a great component. However, the skins look terribly outdated nowadays. Does Telerik have any plans to add more trendy styles? E.g. border shadows, a close button stretching beyond the main window area, etc? And: Why can't we get the simple (and great) style of a Tooltip into a RadWindow.
Thanks, Stephan

PS: We use tooltips and modal dialogs heavily and in many cases either one can do the same stuff. These two components should simply be merged together. My opinion.

Hi Stephan,

We are planning to add shadows for the RadWindow controls - the new skins will be available with the Q2 2010 release later this summer.

Will these be new skins or changes to the existing skins?

If it is the later, I beg you to recall 2009Q1 and what happened when the existing skins were modified.

Again, changes to existing behaviors are rarely ever appreciated.

Thanks
Tim

Hello Tim,

The shadow effect will be added to the existing skins, but it will be enabled / disabled with a property, so this will not affect old custom skins. These skins will continue to work with the new version.

Of course the default will be the existing behavior correct?  I would hate to have to touch code just to get it back to the way it was.  Previous skin changes have caused us many problems and much wasted time.  We don't want to go thru this again.

Thanks,
Sharon

What type of shadows?  Will it be image for IE, and CSS for FF\Webit?

Or just screw IE?

I gotta say, we have a custom window skin with the FF\Webkit CSS box shadow on, and it looks absolutely badass...its such a shame 33% of the users are still stuck on IE (old IT departments ;)

Hi Steve,

To enable shadows, we are using image sprite for all browsers in order to minimize the code and to provide consistent cross-browser result.

Best wishes,

What would just be great is to have skins with thinner borders and header bars. Telerik is doing so well that you are surely able to get some top notch designers on board :-)

Shadows are nice of course but I imagine that borders will even get wider with it!!!

Yeah more modern would be nice (less gradients everywhere)...a lot of the skins are very similar, just slightly different shades of blue http://demos.telerik.com/aspnet-ajax/formdecorator/examples/default/defaultcs.aspx

Hi all,

We have to agree that some of our skins are more or less with similar look and feel. Unfortunately, this is the price we have to pay in order to cover wider range of usage scenarios and browser/device compatibility requirements. Striving to satisfy our customers' requirements, we are in the challenging situation of polishing our existing skins and creating new "trendy" ones by keeping the update process simple and without any braking changes.

That said, we will consider the introduction of new up-to-date skins in a way that will not brake any of your works. Perhaps, we will consider the development of external repository instead of extending our distributions with more built in skins.

For sure, there will be further discussions, so, stay tuned!

Awesome, thanks :)

The sitefinity skin was a step in the right direction, more professional (flat) than the others
