Is there a way to set an "alternate" text for multimedia or flash content when such content is being added in RadEditor to meet W3C accessibility standards?

I could not see any field in the "add content" form itself to allow me to do this.

Thanks,
Sathya.

Hello Sathya,

There is no way to set "alternate" text for flash content when you are adding it with the RadEditor dialogs. I think that making a flash movie accessible is not as simple as providing an "alt" attribute. The movie itself should be created with accessibility guidelines in mind.

I understand that a Flash or MPEG movie needs to be created with accessibility in mind. However, my question was more related to W3C accessibility compliance, such as screen readers.

Like how ALT text is used for accessibility in images, my understanding is that the same technique can be used for OBJECT tags as well, either via text within the OBJECT tag itself or by using NOEMBED tags.

http://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG10-HTML-TECHS/#objects (section 8 and 9)

I tried using the NOEMBED tag and it looks like Telerik strips off these tags. Given that there is no field within the Telerik control itself that asks for alternate text information for an embedded object and that I can't do it CODE mode as described above, what option is there to ensure that the OBJECT tag generated by Telerik RadEditor is compliant with W3C Accessibility Guidelines?

Hi,

The NOEMBED tag has been deprecated (it was a Netscape only extension) so we are not able to use it. I tried searching for the list of attributes for OBJECT and EMBED tags but could not find any other reference to accessibility. The official syntax is on the Adobe site - http://www.adobe.com/go/tn_4150http://www.adobe.com/go/tn_12701.

I don't think that the content inside an OBJECT tag is not suitable for accessibility as well, because its purpose is alternate content for browsers, that do not support the tag (e.g. older browser versions).
