Quick question: am I right in assuming that there are two different versions of RadEditor that work with SharePoint 2007?
  • the full RadEditor
  • RadEditor for MOSS

We have RadEditor for MOSS on our servers, but would like to know why we cannot use the full version. We use the RadEditor to create content for web pages that do have a couple of web parts on - is that why?

We just need a quick explanation on why we cannot use the RadEditor for ASP.NET AJAX even though we have got a couple of other controls from the suite running on our site.

Thanks.

Hi Cindy Mertens,

There is a fully functional ASP.NET AJAX version of RadEditor for MOSS (5.x.x) and there is Lite RadEditor for moss, which is based on the classic ASP.NET version of RadEditor. The Lite version is free and there are a lot of functionalities, which are stripped in it. I attached a document where you can check all the feature differences in both versions.

Sorry, I was not informing about the (free) 'Lite' version. We have a full license for all ASP.NET components and controls.

We currently have the RadEditor for MOSS (5.x.x.) installed, but would like to know whether ther is a reason why we would not be able to use the classic ASP.NET version of RadEditor on our SharePoint environment.

It looks like it has less functionalities.

Hi Cindy,

Could you please describe your scenario with a little bit more details? A step by step instructions will helpful as well.

If you have the full 5.x.x version of RadEditor for MOSS, you don't have to use Lite RadEditor for MOSS4.5.6. Here are the reasons why:
1. The Lite version does't have the full functionality.
2. The lite version is based on the classic ASP.NET RadEditor (http://demos.telerik.com/aspnet-classic/Editor/Examples/Default/DefaultCS.aspx) and not on the ASP.NET AJAX version of the control (http://demos.telerik.com/aspnet-ajax/editor/examples/default/defaultcs.aspx)
2. We stopped enhancing the Lite version in 2009 so it might not work as expected in the latest versions of the browsers.

All the best,

We are definitely NOT using the Lite version.

My question is why the version we have (MOSS 5.8.6 - recently dowloaded and not the Lite versionn) looks different to the ASP.NET AJAX version of the control at http://demos.telerik.com/aspnet-ajax/editor/examples/default/defaultcs.aspx.

(our version as below)

So it looks like there is an ASP.NET AJAX version AND a MOSS version of the RadEditor? Why? And why can't we just use the ASP.NET AJAX version?

Hello Cindy Mertens,

Because there are specialty designed for MOSS ToolsFile.xml and ListToolsFile.xml (for list scenario) configuration files. Review the following online help article: Add/Remove tools from the toolbar

Thanks for pointing us into the right direction - we have now applied the full toolbar and will add/remove tools from it.
