Hi

I am getting  annoying error messages in design in VWD 2008.
I have a number of master pages with controls in and when I am in design view
of a new page, all the controls in the master page regions show the 'error creating control.. ' message
but the child page itself previews and runs correctly without any errors.

I feel I must have left something out to get these errors but everything runs fine so it is not
a show stopper.

What can I do to clean this up?

Thanks for your help

Clive

Hello Telerik,

I'm back after several years hiatus and a few other control toolkits.

I too suffer from "Error creating control...unknown server tag". I have spent hours working through blog entries as well as the (unreliable) methods referenced in the above answer. But, I believe the solution is that the problem (for me) shows up when I start referencing Ajax or ScriptBlock controls. In my case, I'm looking at the problem right now--I have RAD scriptblock and grid controls displaying with the dreaded red Xs and the error message.

I'm running VS2008 latest SP and patches, RAD control 2009 Q2 (APRIL 2009), and Server 2008 (yup, that's right, not plain old Vista).

1. Remove the ScriptBlock.

2. Close VS 2008 and clean out the C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\Temporary ASP.NET Files folder.

3. Restart VS 2008 (problem still displays).

4. Drag'n'drop ScriptBlock back into my control.

Presto changeo everything displays OK.

Hello Manny,

In order to avoid the unexpected behavior I suggest you reinstall RadControls and install them from exe file. More information is available in the following help article.
Installing RadControls from EXE file

Let me know if this helps.
