What Carl Sagan Taught Me About Software

Software ecosystems are vital to a developer's success. It's hard to place a value on the benefit derived from being able to lean on other's experience, as well as easily find and digest content that's relevant to your project. Ecosystems don't just sprout up overnight though. It takes the right timing, the perfect conditions and lots of love and cultivation. Trying to actively create a new ecosystem around a product or platform is a lot like terraforming. Carl Sagan knows a thing or two about that.

TechEd New Orleans and 2 free passes for DevLink Nashville

In roughly two weeks we will converge at TechEd New Orleans – arguably the biggest developer event worldwide. With Visual Studio 2010 and Silverlight 4 out the door, it will be very interesting to see if Microsoft will have any developer news for us – I am betting there will be some. Telerik will be at TechEd in full force, both speaking and exhibiting. Legal-ese demystified, part 2!

So, picking up where we left off yesterday...  Not too long ago, I received a question regarding our licensing policies, specifically section 3-1 in which we state: "Telerik does not provide technical support for modified source code" Which, to the customer, seemed a bit odd considering we do offer such useful tidbits in our documentation like how to inherit a RadGrid column, albeit with a disclaimer at the bottom reminding people about our support stance on modified source, which this would then fall into. This puts us into a little gray area that requires some explanation- namely, why provide info on inheriting...

    Legal-ese demystified

Hello Everyone! I'd like to begin by introducing myself to the Telerik Blog scene. My name is Evan Hutnick and I work as a Developer Support Consultant in our US Sales office. I began here back in September of 2008 and have been on a fast-track to learning everything about Telerik. But what does a Developer Support Consultant do, besides sound flashy? More or less, I'm one of the first lines of defense in the sales office for any sort of technical questions we receive. As a developer in my spare time, I've used Telerik controls (albeit only as a...
