The LOB Chronicles Episode 6 - Development Best Practices

It is hard to believe that we are already moving into the sixth installment in this series. It seems like only yesterday we were musing over UX, utilizing our UX base to craft plans for a better UI, and making data considerations in regards to a model and an ORM. Crazy how time flies and how much work goes into a sample demo application before we even begin development! In honor of the Build conference next week I wanted to dive into our current codebase (TFS + Get Latest Version is our friend here, the developers don’t know I’m...

    The countdown to BUILD!

Next week is the much-anticipated BUILD developer conference about the future of development on the Windows platform, and the public unveiling of Windows 8. Microsoft says that Windows 95 changed the PC and Windows 8 will “change everything.” Clearly, the hyperbole and hype are already running high. The conference has been under such secrecy that we have been told all phone conversations at Microsoft are being recorded to prevent leaks. Something big is going to happen and Telerik is excited to be part of it. We will have a big crew attending the event eager to watch the events...

The New Kindle: Android Tablet Killer

I have argued before that the Android tablet market is a mess and can’t compete with the iPad. Last week it was leaked that Amazon is nearly done with a 7 inch Kindle branded Android tablet. It should sell for about $249 and hit the markets in October or November....

Checklist: Deciding When to Develop with HTML5 and JavaScript

If there is one truism in software development it is that there are no silver bullets. There is no "perfect" platform that should be used to tackle every software challenge. Not HTML5/JavaScript. Not XAML/.NET. Not Flash/AIR. Not anything yet invented. As long as different software projects have different requirements, there will...

    Using Email Notification in TeamPulse

One of the new features introduced with TeamPulse R2 2011 is the Email Notifications.  With this feature we aimed to improve how TeamPulse handles the most important pillars in the Agile process – collaboration and communication. With TeamPulse R2 2011 you can now subscribe to receive email updates whenever a work item (user story, bug, issue, or risk) is updated. This way you can automate the process of tracking work item progress and save time.  With Agile teams, the desired method of communication is face to face discussions, but with today’s distributed teams, this is not always easy to do ...
