Why we are choosing rad controls for ASP.NET AJAX(Q2/2008)

If we have fine with RadControls for ASP.NET Q1 2008.

What are the advantages to build Q2/2008 built on top of MS ASP.NET AJAX?

If my old version telerik controls are fine working on vs2008/asp.net3.5

Regards,

Abhi

Hello Abhi,

RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX is Telerik’s next-generation ASP.NET UI control suite and it delivers faster performance, unified programming model and enhanced functionality.

The new suite includes all controls from RadControls for ASP.NET (Classic) but there are new controls - RadScheduler, RadColorPicker, RadToolTip and RadSlider as well as other utilities like RadScriptManager, RadStyleSheetManager and FormDecorator for skinnable buttons, checkboxes and radio buttons. There are also a lot of additional features which were previously impossible to implement with our "old" architecture. For instance: extended client-side APIs, client-side binding and rendering, binding to web-services and binding with LINQ.

We have also included a lot of performance optimizations in our new framework. We now have super-high performance controls without sacrificing the powerful features that you are accustomed to see from us. The new controls leverage an innovative load-as-needed script resource handlers, as well as optimized client-side and server-side code for blazing speed.

Also, all ASP.NET AJAX controls are now shipped in a single assembly, which greatly simplifies the deployment and the new suite natively supports both ASP.NET 2.0 and ASP.NET 3.5

However, due to the architectural changes, the new RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX suite is NOT backwards compatible with RadControls for ASP.NET (Classic) and you will need to invest some time in upgrading your projects. If you decide not to upgrade at this point and your projects are OK with the previous version, you can continue using the RadControls for ASP.NET (Classic) in your applications. Telerik will offer product updates and hotfixes for the RadControls for ASP.NET (Classic) and they will be fully supported through at least 2010.

For more info on the differences between RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX and RadControls for ASP.NET please refer to these resources:

There is also a lot of additional info on the new features of RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX in the Online Demos and Online Documentation (for every control there is a topic on how to upgrade from the "Classic" version to the ASP.NET AJAX one)

I hope this helps.

Please let us know if you need any further details, or if you have any questions/comments.
