Hi,

Which Telerik control should I use for a Wizard Based ASP.NET Pages? Does Telerik have something similar to Microsoft ASP Wizard Control?

Thanks

Hello,

We plan to release a new standalone Wizard control in 2014 and I will be grateful, if you share your requirements for such a control.

Can you please tell us:
  • which features do you want to see offered and you will use?
  • in which types of applications and scenarios you will use the control?

Best regards,
Rumen

Hi,
1. I would like to see the wizard control that has a progress bar which can be configured easily
2. Configure the wizard tabs either Horizontally or Vertically
3. Looking for functionality that exists in Bootstrap Wizard Plugin http://vadimg.com/twitter-bootstrap-wizard-example/

When will the Wizard control be released? I will be starting on a project that will heavy use of Wizard based pages.

It also needs to have responsive design built in so the control can be operated from Desktop, Tablets and Mobile device.

Hi,

Thank you for your feedback!

Please find my comments inline in green.

1. I would like to see the wizard control that has a progress bar which can be configured easily - This is indeed a very cool and useful feature and we will try to provide it for the first version of the control.
2. Configure the wizard tabs either Horizontally or Vertically - Both modes will be offered.
3. Looking for functionality that exists in Bootstrap Wizard Plugin http://vadimg.com/twitter-bootstrap-wizard-example/ - OK, we will review them and see what could be introduced in version 1.
4. One more thing Render selected page only. - This rendering mode will be supported.
5. Responsive design - one of our top goals is to create controls that work fluently well on mobile and desktop devices so this functionality will be definitely implemented.

Once again that you for your suggestion. Your Telerik points have been updated.

Best regards,
Rumen

Hello,

Thank you for the additional feature request.

It is too early to say but the control will appear in Q2 2014, or if any problems pop up in the Q3 release at the latest.

Can you please post your further feature requests in the Feedback portal so that your fellow developers can vote for your ideas?

Hi,

Any updates on the new wizard type control?   Time frames or if the feature is still in the works as it may influence our current projects.  We have really enjoying using your control suite and know if Telerik does a wizard it will far exceed what we could create from scratch.

Thanks for your great work,
David

Hi David,

The release of the Wizard control will be postponed for Q3 2014. We want to ensure that the control has enough tests, smooth operation, nice and useful demos and documentation, before presenting it to the community.

Let me know if you would like to participate in the Beta testing of the Wizard and I will send you a build once it becomes available.

Kind regards,
Rumen

Hi,

Our custom web application uses Bootstrap 3.2 css overall styling. If using Telerik Control it injects its own style i.e. Font, Size etc.

What is the easiest way to use custom CSS without too much work tweaking CSS for each Telerik Controls. Some of my client want to stay away from Telerik control because its very hard to make modification to Telerik control if Bootstrap css is used for overall website styling. I hope Telerik makes it easy to swipe its css with Bootstrap in near future.  If not some of my clients want to stay away from using Telerik controls.

I see Kendo UI supports Bootstrap CSS and I hope the same is done on the ASP.NET UI AJAX controls

Hello,

Actually, Kendo UI does not support the Bootstrap CSS. The Kendo UI widgets have a Bootstrap-like theme and metrics similar to the ones of the Bootstrap components as you can see in their live demos, e.g.

We also plan to provide a Bootstrap skin and Bootstrap-like metrics for the Q1 2015 release of Telerik UI for ASP.NET AJAX.

We do not plan to provide built-in support for the Bootstrap CSS because:

  • not all controls in our suite have counterparts in Bootstrap. For example, how should we style the treeview when Bootstrap does not offer such components.
  • we should provide new rendering, which is a very huge task. What will happen when Bootstrap release version 4 and there are huge braking changes that we should fix to provide support for it.
  • We cannot support themes from third party vendors. The available custom Bootstrap themes are so different and we cannot guarantee that all of them could be applied without glitches to our controls.

What we could try to do is to create a series of code libraries that show how to apply a Bootstrap theme to some of the most popular controls from the Telerik UI for ASP.NET AJAX suite. In regards to this, we are going to start with the RadGrid control. You can expect the code library this or next week at the latest.

Best regards,

Rumen
