There are two components doing actually the same: TreeView and TreeList whereas TreeView would be essentially a TreeList with only one column. So why do we need both of them? Or is TreeList supposed to replace TreeView at a later stage?

Indeed, the TreeView and TreeList are similar. But these are two separate components having their own layout and functionalities. Indeed, as you have noticed the TreeList can show more columns than one where each item property can be displayed. The TreeList also supports functionalities such as sorting, paging and others which are typical for a Grid component. But sometimes the layout of the TreeList isn't needed for a specific project and a more simpler layout like the one provided by the TreeView can be used. Thus, it is considered a developer effort to chose the proper component for the specific project requirements.
