Hi, I have a simple doubt about Telerik Report, how can I add a subreport, is really necessary a separate file? I've been looking about this question and I saw that to add a datasource on the subreport is necessary to point to another report, this information proceeds?

Hi Rubens,

If you use the approach described in the How to: Create a Master-Detail Report Using a SubReport Item help article, the data in the sub report will be filtered based on the data of the master report.

You can also test the approach suggested in the How to bind the DataSource of a SubReport in the designer forum discussion to avoid using a separate data source component in the sub report.

I hope the above information is helpful.

Stef

Right, but I'm using Telerik Report Designer. How can I do to add a subreport without the necessity to create a new file what will serve like the subreport of the my main report? Did you understood my question?

Hello Rubens,

The Telerik Standalone Report Designer has the following options to load a sub-report:
  • Load report from URL or file
  • Load report from XML markup

Check the attached screenshot for a demonstration of the user interface.

The first option requires you to create a new file that will serve as a sub-report. The second option enables you to add a sub-report directly as XML string which contains the report definition.

Actually I also found this is one of the weak point you really need to improve compared with Fastreport and CrystalReport.when we insert a subreport ,we have to set a reportsource  for this subreport. The subreport is another independent report file that means we have to keep two report files on our computer. But in Fastreport and crystalreport, the subreport is intergrated into the masterreport. There's only one report we need to maintain.

Hello Cao,

When you use the second option from my previous reply "Load report from XML markup" the sub-report definition becomes integrated into the master report, just like you described.
