Set variables directly as a step

I would like to be able to set variables as a step, directly from a string I provide rather than as a result of some other step.

Thank you for your interest in Test Studio for APIs. 

Since the request you have to set the variable value directly is not yet implemented I submitted a feature request to our public feedback portal. It will be reviewed and evaluated and then updated accordingly. I hope this could be easily implemented to ease your everyday work. 

Meanwhile I would like to mention that you could use the Design-time variables to workaround that use case. Although I guess you are already aware of that feature.
