We are evaluating Telerik Reporting for use in a web application that will run on a shared host.  This project requires us to email specific reports to users at specific times during the day.

Is there any functionality available in Telerik Reporting to manage automated generation and devlivery of reports according to a schedule?

Hi Barry Dahlberg,

To our greatest regret Telerik Reporting lacks the scheduling and delivery features you are asking.

For the time being Telerik Reporting is embedded reporting engine and it always operates as part of a Desktop/Web Application. This application is responsible for preparing the reports and passing them to the reporting engine to be rendered.

Anyway our long term plans already include this functionality and as soon as we know when it will be available it will be listed in the product roadmap.

Cheers for the fast response.

In the mean time I guess I'll have to put something together with background threads.

Hi Narayanan,

As my colleague explained Telerik Reporting is an embedded reporting engine and not a standalone report server, and usually it is part of a Desktop,Web or Silverlight Application. Thus we don't have out of the box support for scheduling reports but you can implement your own scheduling functionality.

Generally to export a report, you can use the RenderReport method of the ReportProcessor class. This method converts the contents of the report to a byte array in the specified format, which you can then use with other classes such as MemoryStream or FileStream . For more information and example check out the Exporting Report Programmatically help article.
