Hi Telerik/Progress/?

After having purchased and used Telerik Reportserver for almost a year now, we've come across multiple problematic designs in TRS.

The worst issue was our attempt to delete the built-in "Guest" account (via REST, tidying up unnecessary users), which resulted in its user name being wiped, and it being reactivated (was deactivated).

This result crashed the server software repeatedly, and we had to reinstall a backup of the server database to fix it. Why is it even possible to make changes to a built-in account, that clearly is essential to the workings of TRS ?

Other grievances include:

- The inability to delete users in the web interface.

- The very limited dropdown width for reports, showing only a small part of the names, when we use long category and report names.

- Missing sensible sorting of various lists, rendering them very troublesome to navigate.

- The inability to exclude certain reports from sharing (via the Guest account), forcing us to instead add a lot of reports on the account's permissions (90%/10% problem).

- The locking of server reports after publishing a report from the stand-alone Designer, always requiring the Designer to be shut down and restarted to release the lock.

Cheers

Lars

Hi Lars,

In Report Server it should be impossible to delete the Guest user due to an explicit check in the source code. If you can successfully reproduce this with the latest version of Report Server, please send us the exact steps so we can investigate further.

- Deleting users in the web interface is possible since Report Server R2 2018 SP1 (4.1.18.620). Make sure you are using the latest version of Report Server.

- I am not sure which dropdown you are referring to. Please provide screenshots of this issue.

- As above, please provide screenshots or describe the exact lists for which we need to enable sorting.

- The Guest account permissions have a report-related scope and you can use those permissions to exclude certain reports from sharing.

- This issue is not reproducible on our end using the latest version of Report Server. Please elaborate further and provide steps to reproduce.

Hi Nasko.

Here are two screenshots to illustrate the width+sorting problem:

TRS report list

TRS Guest report dropdown

(And yes, the report dropdown is prefixed by the text "Category" in the latter, which is a bug too).

Hello Lars,

TRS report list - the reports grid can be sorted by clicking on the desired column title. There is also the option to filter most of the columns and you can even use the search input on the top of each page to search inside the grid. Please test all of this functionality in our Report Server Demo.

TRS Guest report dropdown - I agree that the dropdown is very narrow and does not display the entries in a user friendly manner. I am going to log this issue in our system so we can fix it in a future release of Report Server.

Hi Nasko.

The sorting issue is not just with the reports grid and other grids, it's also in the dropdowns.

TRS unsorted list

It's much more difficult to navigate a list if it's not sorted somehow.
