If I have a subscription license that’s active and publish an application to a production environment, all is well.

Scenario case, if my license expires, and I make an update to the application, same version of Telerik controls, but now with an expired license.
If I publish a new version of the application, will it still function without the license key messages?

From what I understand, it will still function and no license messages assuming I don't update the Telerik Controls.

Hi RBarnes,

If your subscription license expires and you continue using the same version of the Telerik controls (i.e., a version released before your license expiration date), your application will continue to function without license key messages. This includes updates you make to your application, as long as:

  • You do not upgrade to a newer Telerik release published after your license expired.
  • You use a perpetual license, which remains valid for all versions released prior to the expiration.
  • You keep the originally deployed Telerik assemblies and do not trigger a rebuild that requires license verification.

However, for subscription licenses, you will not be able to rebuild and republish the app after the license expires. Rebuilding the application triggers license validation, which will result in license key errors or UI watermarks if the license is no longer valid.

You can find additional details in the Telerik Licensing FAQ here:

I have a subscription, does that mean I have a subscription license?  How does one go about finding out what "type" of license they have?

Requiring a new license key to update a Label text as an example for an app using an expired "subscription" license, seems restrictive to me.  Why would you want to penalize your users in this manner?

Hi Roger,

Thanks for your follow-up. According to our records, you have an active perpetual license for DevCraft Complete. Here’s how perpetual licenses work with regard to license expiration and application updates:

Perpetual licenses are a one-time purchase that allow you to use any version of Telerik UI for ASP.NET AJAX released before your license expiration date. These licenses also come with one year of product updates and technical support, which can be renewed if needed. After the update/support period ends, you can continue to use all eligible versions released during your license term, but you will not receive further updates or support unless you renew.

  • Your license key remains valid for all Telerik UI for ASP.NET AJAX versions published before your license expiration date.
  • You can update, rebuild, and redeploy applications using these covered versions at any time - even after your subscription/support period expires.
  • You are not restricted from rebuilding or publishing your application, as long as you do not upgrade to a newer Telerik release published after your license expired.

From the Telerik Licensing FAQ:
"An expired perpetual license key is valid for all Telerik UI for ASP.NET AJAX versions published before the license expiration date."

So in your case, you are not subject to the restrictions mentioned for subscription-only licenses. You can continue to rebuild and republish your applications using eligible versions at any time.
