Telerik Team,We are evaluating options for a mobile application
development strategy. We will be building apps that work on multiple mobile
platforms including Google Glass. Since you offer both Kendo and Xamarin, do
you have any articles or comparisons that will help us decide.

Also, please let us know how the licensing would work if we
have a Devcraft Complete license. What are the options to add kendo or Xamarin.

Hello David,

Indeed for cross-platform mobile app development you can ponder both our UI for Xamarin and Kendo UI products.

Kendo UI (and its mobile widgets/framework in particular) is applicable for adaptive hybrid mobile app development across iOS, Android and Windows Phone platforms using html/javascript and PhoneGap for packaging and deployment to AppStores. Note that you can also leverage it as part of Telerik Platform, taking advantage of the complete integrated develop/build/deploy experience within it.

UI for Xamarin is an alternative option, which gives you the ability to use C# code and Xamarin Studio, or Visual Studio, to build applications for iOS, Android and Windows Phone which are compiled to native code for the respective platform. Further details can be gathered from the product page I linked above.

It's up to you to decide which approach and technology are more suitable for your development needs. Note that Kendo UI is included in all Telerik DevCraft bundles (UI Edition, Complete and Ultimate) while UI for Xamarin is part of DevCraft Ultimate only. For reference see our pricing page.

I hope these directions are helpful.

Best regards,
Sebastian

Hi again David,

To my understanding Google Glass runs on Android Wear, which is a version of Android for wearable devices. Although we have not tested Kendo UI with Google Glass yet, since the product supports Android OS and Chrome as listed here, you should not experience issues using it with this environment.

Note however that the concepts for design and user interface for Google Glass somehow differ from those common for standard web and mobile apps.

Regards,
Sebastian
