If you need to display Date-based values that span over a long period of time, I would advise you to consider the StockChart instead because it features a navigator that lets you scroll through and zoom data easily:

The StockChart widget works with regular Column, Line and Area series as well, you just need to specify them the same way you would in a regular Chart.
