I am afraid that we are not aware of a common reason that would cause such an error. Try to upgrade the controls to the latest version (currently this is 2014.2.724) and see if the behavior would change.
Please note that the error 12031 is a general error and it could be caused by the environment setup. I suggest checking this thread
