Hi,
I need to create a dashboard solution. The dashboard needs to be displayed in a web page and also be able to email it out as a PDF attachment. Can this be done with your reporting product?
Can a report be created using a console application? It does not need to be a WinForms app? I need to schedule a console application to run overnight that will email out personalised dashboard content.
Can the report include charts and tables with colour coded cells and be exported to a PDF file?
Can the web report viewer be embedded in a Dock on a web page? I would like to have a collection of docks that can be dragged/dropped/closed to customise a dashboard for each user.

Hi skysailor,
The best way to familiarize yourself with the capabilities of Telerik Reporting is to visit our online demos, especially the new dashboard example. We also recommend to upgrade to the new Q1 2009 release, if you have not done so already, which has a lot of new features, that might help you with your dashboard solution.
Scheduling a console application to generate reports overnight and e-mail them is a quite common task, that can be accomplished fairly easy with Telerik Reporting. You can refer to the following KB article, which explains how you can export a report programmatically to PDF, without the need of the Report Viewer.
Regarding your last question: there are no known issues when embedding the Web Report Viewer in a Dock on a web page so far.
Hope this helps.
Best wishes,

Thankyou for your reply.
Are there any plans to add gauges to your reporting product? They would be very useful in a dashboard solution.
Do you have any plans to add click through events to the reports? It would be great to be able to add drill down capability to a report but there does not seem to be any way to get click events from the report surface.
I think you should invest in some smarter looking demos. The ones you have show the capabilities of the product but are a little simplistic in presentation. A full featured professionally layed out example would do a lot to sell the product.

Hi skysailor,
We do not have gauges in our short term plans, but we're aware of their usefulness and we would definitely consider them for subsequent version of the product.
As noted in our Known limitations of Telerik Reporting forum thread, interactive reports are not supported as well, but in our TODO list (no specific timeframe yet).
As for the demos - thank you for the feedback. However can you verify that you are indeed looking into the Q1 2009 demos (online examples here). We've reworked them all for this Q and we believe that they ended up quite smooth and nice looking.
In this line of thoughts, we would be more than glad if you share any of your professional reports with us, so that we can review them and make changes to ours accordingly. If they contain sensitive information and should not be public, you can open a support ticket and attach them there.
All the best,
Steve

Hi,
We are close to deciding on a reporting solution. The problem with the Telerik Reporting solution is that you do not provide the ability to have any sort of click through. I need to be able to click on a report item and have it generate a new report in place with a new filter condition. The lack of this capability is a deal break for us. In many forum posts you said this was definitely coming in 2008. It didn't. Is it coming soon? Do you have a roadmap for the next release yet? Is there any viable workaround?

Hi Clayton,
I guess you are asking about the interactive capabilities of Telerik Reporting. Unfortunately we still lack this type of reports and up until now both the report viewers and the reports are static. Anyway, our short-term plans include similar functionality and I we will start working on it before the end of the year. Until then I'm afraid but there is no possible workaround.

Hello,
We are happy to announce that Reporting Q3 2010 offers drill down interactive functionality for all report items, but charting (a workaround for charting is posted here). Q3 2010 was released yesterday.
The drill down interactivity complements the previous interactive features, introduced earlier this year (drill through, links, etc.). Review What's New in Q3 2010 Reporting and check the more technical Q3 release notes.
The Q3 version with drill down reporting is available for download in your account.
Enjoy and send us your feedback!
Sincerely yours,
Vassil
