Cannot use Built in Excel Export button

I am attempting to use an ajaxed radgrid with the Export to Excel button enabled, but when I click on it nothing happens. I have found many examples of how to setup the export for user created buttons, but no examples on how to resolve this for the auto-generated excel button.  I have already reviewed this example and it has not been helpful or clear for this situation.

Could you please confirm that you disable the ajax  when export button is pressed like is shown on the following example:
