Telerik UI for WinForms

What's Coming in 2022?

We are excited to announce our plans for Telerik UI for WinForms with the upcoming 2022 releases.

We want to thank you for the continuous support and encourage you to share your thoughts and ideas for what next you would like to see developed in the WinForms suite in our dedicated feedback portal.

Telerik UI for WinForms

Spreadsheet Charts

New feature

As always, we strive to improve the visualization and summarizing of data in the spreadsheet document. Your end-users will be happy to know that we plan to introduce chart support for the Spreadsheet control.

This will enable displaying charts and adding and removing chart objects in the spreadsheet itself.

We plan to support the following chart types:

  • Column
  • Bar
  • Line
  • Pie & Donut
  • Area
  • Bubble

Windows 11 Theme

New feature

We are happy to announce that the Telerik UI for WinForms themes family will have a new member: the Windows 11 theme. It is no secret that the theme is inspired by Windows 11 OS, bringing smooth, round shapes.

Heatmap Control

New component

The Telerik UI for WinForms suite will have a new data visualization control—Heatmap. The Heatmap can be used to visualize numeric data in a matrix-like representation along two axes. Its purpose is to present the data in colored rectangles where the color of each rectangle represents its value, making it easy to perceive and compare all values.

It will provide sleek UI features for better readability:

  • Colorizers
  • Labels
  • Row and column header customizations
  • Tooltips
  • and more!

Toolbar Form

New component

This brand-new form will delight your end-users by allowing you to add any element right into the form’s title bar. Don’t be afraid to add more than a few dropdown lists, toggle buttons or even a search text box like the one in Visual Studio—space will not be an issue. There will be plenty of room thanks to a multi-row, out-of-the-box functionality that will allow you to add as many elements as you wish. Your title bars’ height will adapt according to your needs.

Flyout Window

New component

A Flyout Window is an overlay that freezes the rest of the screen until the end-user interacts with the window and its hosted controls. Think of it like the message boxes and pop-up windows seen in Microsoft Store applications.

Splash Screen

New component

Similar to the Flyout Window, the Splash Screen control will enable you to disable the UI but, rather than presenting options to the end-user, the Splash Screen will indicate that the application is loading. It will allow you to create and display splash forms and images. The timing, look and feel of the Splash control will be modifiable.

ImageList Supporting HDPI

New component

Having an SVG at hand to cover different DPI scenarios is not always possible. The RadImageList will enable you to define multiple images within your application—one for each system scale factor—that will be changed automatically when the DPI is changed. With this approach your application will get the correct image according to the system DPI settings and the blurry images will be a thing of the past.

Notify Icon Component

New component

The WinForms NotifyIcon is an interactive component that will display an icon in the Windows taskbar notification area, along with various forms of important data such as tooltips, popups and balloon notifications. It will also show a context menu upon interaction from the end-user, where you will get to choose what items to display.

Taskbar Assistant

New component

The Taskbar Assistant will allow you to add more interactivity to your WinForms application button within the system taskbar.

When you right-click the application taskbar button, you will see a popup containing a list of options, tasks and actions under different categories. The popup could contain general application commands, custom commands and categories, recent category displaying the recently used files and more.

When you hover over the application taskbar button, you will see a thumbnail preview window that can contain buttons below the preview image.

We are considering adding a progress indicator with different progress styles as well.

New .NET Framework Distribution

We will continue to support the latest .NET versions as we do in any new release. Since we want to keep the distribution support up to date, we will remove the .NET Framework 2.0 distribution. However, we will add a higher version of .NET Framework distribution, whose improvements you will benefit from with the next release.

VS2022 Dark Theme

New feature

We know how much you like dark themes and since the launch of Visual Studio 2022 Light theme, it was just a matter of time for us to introduce a dark variation as well. We are happy to announce that you will be able to take advantage of yet another theme in our built-in collection—Visual Studio 2022 Dark theme.

Windows 11 Dark Theme

New feature

We will work towards satisfying the dark theme fans by introducing a new flavor—Windows 11 Dark theme. You will benefit from the Windows 11 Dark theme features in any Telerik UI for WinForms control without any additional configuration apart from setting the theme.

New High Contrast Theme (Office 2019)

New feature

The brand new high-contrast variation of the Office 2019 theme will help your users reduce eye strain and improve their productivity. It is inspired by the black high-contrast mode in Windows 10 and aims to make text more readable.

Spreadsheet Improvements

We understand that the Spreadsheet is an important control for your clients and that is why we are determined to bring even more value to it. In our upcoming 2022 releases, we plan to introduce a bunch of Spreadsheet improvements to enrich your clients’ experience with the control.

TimeOnly and DateOnly Columns in .NET GridView

New feature

It should come as no surprise that the top data control, the GridView, will further expand its features set. You will benefit from two new column types, TimeOnly and DateOnly, allowing your clients to see shorter values in the GridView cells, presenting Time or Date information.

New component
The control allows lightweight scrolling and navigation through large periods of time and can host other controls and integrate with them to create powerful dashboards.

End of support for .NET Framework 2.0

After almost two decades of .NET Framework 2.0, it's time we said goodbye. Microsoft ended support for the framework in April, 2016 and now, almost six years later we're also ending our extended support. We'll be focusing our efforts on developing newer and more useful UI components to help you with your app development.
Fortunately, applications written using the .NET Framework 2.0 can be upgraded to newer versions of .NET. with the help of the Telerik WinForms Application Modernization Wizard
