Hi Roland,

Thank you for your interest in our controls!

We are working on porting the MediaPlayer to WPF. It will be released with our next major release - Q3.09 - late October.

We are testing the WPF product and considering it for our flag software.

I have another question regarding WPF Media Player.

Will it be possible to stream video via WCF or only MMS ? Assuming we could stream WMV or AVI in WCF, this would be a great product, because this is missing from mediaelement.

Is there any  roadmap for media player

Hi Roland,

Currently, our target is to port RadMediaPlayer for WPF. This will be done by the end of Q3.
RadMediaPlayer is highly dependent on the MediaElement control, thus inheriting its advantages and disadvantages. In short, we cannot extend the MediaElement and provide functionality that the MediaElement is not providing itself.

Kind regards,

Hi saha,

Unfortunately our priorities change a bit and we will not deliver the MediaPlayer for WPF with Q3. Sorry for any inconvenience this is causing.

I was looking for the MediaPlayer in WPF Q3 as well.  I have attended two Telerik Q3 Webinars this week, and they are broadcasting that it is the Q3 Release.  But I do not see it in the WPF Q3 demos, the product page, or in the WPF binaries.  You may want to notify the people giving the Q3 Webinars an updated status on the MediaPlayer for WPF.

Thanks,

Charlie J.

Still no WPF media player with smooth streaming ?

Hi Roland,

Thank you for your suggestion. There has been very low demand for a WPF media player, so the priority of this task is low. However, could you please share with us what your expectations of a WPF media player would be. Do you expect to see the same player ported to WPF or you image a more application-like media player with all the menus that are available in the Windows Media Player? Thank you for your feedback in advance.

Best wishes,

Hello,

There has been a low demand, because you guys said it is your goal to share the code base, which means you would be able to have the same controls for both platforms.

I would expect it to be the same as SL media player with smooth streaming support. There is no smooth streaming player for WPF out there (I could not find anything) and since you already have the SL player it would be a nice addition.

Hi Roland,

First of all, we'd like to apologize for the inconvenience caused and thank you for the feedback. A MediaPlayer for WPF is still in our to-do but with a low priority. Therefore we cannot commit to a specific release date due to other development tasks with higher priority. I'd strongly encourage you to track and vote for this PITS item in order to increase the priority of the task. We strongly rely on our Public Issue Tracking System as an indicator of what customers want us to provide.

All the best,

The only question is:

Assuming the PITS item goes through, will that support smooth streaming ?

Hi Roland,

That kind of questions are one of the reasons we haven't ported the MediaPlayer to WPF yet. Apart of the low demand we've estimated a considerable amount of work must be done to finish the task. We have conducted a market analysis and couldn't find a library that might be used to support smooth streaming out of the box. We will continue to monitor customer demand and look for possible implementations to support smooth streaming.

Best wishes,
