Oh man, I have been waiting to get this release to finish replacing all my old code, and the radrotator was the last piece, but I noticed that the ticker is missing!! What happened?
Thanks,
~bg

Hi,

The RadTicker control has not been added to the RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX suite yet. Our surveys indicated that the control is used only by a few customers. Naturally, if there is interest in a ticker control, we will include it in the next RadControls release.

Best wishes,

Personnally, I had hoped to use the ticker as a RSS reader and announcement distributor....

I'm surprised that your suveys didn't find interest in that feature.

I would think that that you would at a minimum include what there was before. I have taken every survey offered, and I never saw anything about removing the ticker? I use it on my main application:

Hi,

I expect that the RadTicker control will be enabled in one of the Q2 2008 RadControls service pack releases. It should offer the same functionality as the old ticker control.

I hope this isn't thread jacking but I also wanted to add how surprised and disappointed I was to see the ticker disappear from the Q2 release. The company that I am working with asked me to trial the radcontrols, I got a Q1 download and an old RadRotator from download.com, these are the only two controls that they were interested in. The dev site works great and they are happy, the purchase of Q2 followed as I had seen that the Rotator had been re-included in the ASP.NET Ajax Q2 release.

I guess I only have myself to blame here as I didn't research the release enough but found that the RadRotator had been completely rewritten necessitating some re-writing of the original code (it's all in code behind) and the contained ticker had to be removed and replaced with a label, please please put the ticker back in soon...

Hi John,

Based on overall customer feedback it was decided to implement RadTicker in the RadControls for ASP.NET suite as well. It will appear in the Q3 release 2008, scheduled for early autumn.

Many thanks for the reply, could I just get some clarification from you re further updates that may re-include the ticker?

The company bought the full ASP.NET Ajax toolset to obtain the rotator and ticker we trialed from the Q1 release, they did not purchase major updates which as I understand will not include the Q3 release but minor updates to Q2 only, as I feel responsible for this I have offered to reimburse them for this cost which is something that I would have rather not done, is my understanding of the update policy correct?

After trialing the Q1 which had the ticker and giving the go ahead to purchase Q2 I do feel somewhat let down, could you assist in this unlucky scenario?

John Colclough

Hello John,

Your client's purchase certainly entitles them to receive the Q3 release free of charge, you should not worry about that - and you will not need to reimburse them.

In addition to this, since the decision for the purchase was based actually on the need to use RadRotator, we will provide a Developer's version for RadRotator Classic free of charge for your customers. Please open a support ticket, and provide us with their company name, or some other information that will help us locate their account in our system, and we will update it with a RadRotator Classic license.

Since I started this thread, I just have to comment, that this is the kind of thing that makes Telerik great. I don't know who is in charge, but they are making the right decisions.

Ticket created and company details sent. Could I ask one more question please? Would the licence that the company bought work with the Q1 release download that I trialled last month? Given that we will soon have access to the classic RadRotator, if this would work I can give them in live, exactly what we created in our dev environment, with the inclusion of the Ticker,

many thanks for such a positive response, both me and the company that I am working with are really pleased, great support!

Hi John,

Thank you for the provided information. We already created the free developer license for the RadRotator for the company you specified. As to your question, my colleague from Sales will address it a separate support message shortly.
