I cannot view the data, report or group explorer in VS 2008. I have the option both in my telerik menu and in the context menu but when I choose either of them nothing happens. I have tried uninstalling reporting and reinstalled it again. I'm currently running Vista, VS2008 and Reporting Q1 2010.
Any help in this matter would be greatly appretiated. I've searched the web and these forums without finding anything regarding this.
Thanks
Jan

As outlined in the Telerik Reporting Menu help article, the menu items are context dependent. You should open the report in the Designer in order to see them.

Thank you for your reply. I do have the report designer open and active and can see
all the options to selcet group explorer etc.. but nothing happens. Maybe something
else obvious I'm missing?
Kind regards
Jan
This is really strange and you're the first one to report such an issue. Can you try the Windows + M key combination to see if any of those modal dialogs is not out of the visible are so this way you can get it on focus?
If you need further assistance on the issue we will need more information about the machine configuration and installed applications on your computer, especially any additional Visual Studio third party and Microsoft components. Have you tried to use Telerik Reporting on a clean Visual Studio installation? This information will help us isolate any conflicts that could cause such unexpected behavior.

Sorry for my late reply. Been out of the office...
The Win + M command didn't reveal any hidden dialogs.
I'm running on a HP 6710b/Intel Core Duo 2.5 GHz/4 GB and Vista SP 2 Business 32 bit.
I have VS 2008 and no other components than Telerik ASP.NET AJAX, Reporting and Silverlight.
I used to have VS C# express 2008 for Telerik reporting but I unistalled that before
I installed VS 2008.
With C# express it used to work....
I have not tried to reinstall VS 2008. Is that what you mean with a clean install?
Thanks for your help!
Regards / Jan
It is strange that you've mentioned VS express edition, since we've explicitly noted in our System requirements that it is not supported and we're a bit baffled how "it used to work" with it. By clean installation, I was referring to Visual Studio with only Telerik Reporting installed - nothing else that might have altered the VS settings (including other Telerik products).
Anyway there is a possibility of this being a Visual Studio corruption problem, so repairing it or making clean install might resolve it as well.

Ok thank you for your reply. Since I have had quite a few different VS versions during the
last couple of years it's most likely I'm misstaken about what version I had when it was working.
I will try a clean install and get back here with the results later. Tried to repair VS but that didn't help.
Thanks
Jan
I'm also having the same problem... is there any screen-shots on step-by-step click for the group explorer to come-up?
Installed:
Telerik Reporting Q2 2010
Visual Studio 2008
64 Bit
Kind thanks,
Sel
The Group Explorer is part of the Telerik Reporting Menu and its items are context dependent. You should open the report in the Designer in order to see them. Please review the suggestions from previous post for possible things to try if having problems.

If I go into Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate (SP1), it works fine.
I've still not managed to get this to work either. I've uninstalled VS2008 even with the unintallTool.exe provided from Microsoft and installed everything again without any luck. What remains is to reinstall the whole system I guess.
All:
I also cannot get the Upgrade Wizard to come up. The ONLY option that works in this menu is the "Report Wizard". I uninstalled all versions of Telerik, removed the "Telerik" folder in C:\Program Files\", re-installed 2011 Q1 (build 316), then installed 2011 Q2 (build 928), and finally installed 2011 Q3 (build 1116) and still cannot get anything to work (with the exception of the Report Wizard).
I have Visual Sudio 2008 Professional (with SP) and Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate (with SP1) installed on my system (Windows 7 Ultimate/64-bit with SP1).
It works fine in Visual Studio 2010 but NOT in Visual Studio 2008.

There was a similar problem in the official Q3 2011 release which caused similar problems in VS2008. Thus our suggestion is to download the latest internal build 5.3.11.1222 from your account that addresses the problem and upgrade.
If you've done so already and continue to have problems, have you installed Telerik Reporting with Administrator rights and do you run Visual Studio as Administrator? Do you have VS SP1 and subsequent updates installed (if not please do)?
If the problem persists when you install TR as Administrator and run VS as such, try launching the Visual Studio IDE with the command from the error message that should fix the problem: Devenv.exe /ResetSkipPkgs.
As noted in MSDN, this command would reset skipping VSPackages, which means that the Telerik Reporting VSPackage is not loaded on your machine. After running this command, it should properly load and the Visual Studio support would work.
If none of the above work, we highly recommend making clean install of Visual Studio and install the latest internal build.

Hi Steve:
I am logged into my local machine using the Administrator account, so I have full Admin access. I tried re-installing VS2008 SP1, completely removed Telerik, removed the entries from the registry, removed the "Telerik" folder from C:\Program Files (x86)" but to no avail. The only option that works is the "Report Wizard".
I also have Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate (SP1) installed, and it works absolutely fine there. I will try the latest internal build to see what happens. I have tried installing Telerik with examples and without examples but that doesn't do the trick either. I am running out of options.
Kevin
I finally got it to work! The trick came from Technical Support @ Telerik. Once I installed the Visual Studio 2008 SDK 1.1 package, it worked. Here's the link:

I finally got it to work. I opened a ticket with Telerik Support, and they asked me to re-install Visual Studio 2008 Service Pack 1 (which did NOT work) and the Visual Studio 2008 SDK 1.1 (which DID work!). Here's the link:
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=21827
Once I installed this package, all the options started working. Gonna create an image of my hard disk NOW!

Thanks for sharing this with us. If installing the VS2008 SDK was the solution, then the problem is the one we addressed in the latest internal build from 22nd of December.

Hello,
We are using Visual Studio 2013 Express which is not suported by Telerik, but is there any way to open or interact with Group Explorer window? Is there any way to work with crosstable groups?
Best regards
Visual Studio 2013 Express is not supported - System Requirements. Please test switching to Visual Studio 2013 Community edition or other listed in our system requirements.

I have VS 2015 Community and VS 2017 installed. My VS2017 used to crash when updating the expressions in report, so i installed 2015 and worked fine. But again with VS 2015 Community, I face this problem where the 'Group Explorer / Data Explorer / Report Explorer' window isn't popping up. The Telerik.Reporting dll version is '10.0.16.204'.
Looked into it for a complete day. Any help is appreciated!!!
During the installation of Telerik Reporting, the package that supplies the menu options in the designer's context menu (Report, Data and Group explorers) and the mechanism for their invocation is installed per user. This means that if Visual Studio is run using a different user from the one that was used for Telerik Reporting installation, those options will not be available.
If you want to ensure a specific user have the required options when using VS report designer, you need to run the installation of Telerik Reporting using the account of this user.
Best Regards,
Silviya
