Typing in a column brings up selection?

Is there a way to type in a column, and the row be selected?

Let's say you type "j" -- you want the first row where "j" occurs in that column. You continue -- "ja" and you get the row with "jason" in it.

Is this functionality available in other grid products? If so we would like to examine how the feature works so any information regarding the described behavior will be welcome. We added the suggested functionality to our TODO list, but we cannot guarantee it will be available any time soon.

I want to say in Outlook Contacts or folders. If you set it to read only it seems you can just start typing and it brings you to that entry. It's a requirement on my current project, but I can't figure out how to do it with the MS grid.

Hello Jason,

Do you know some other grid products to support this feature? The Outlook uses custom controls and the feature is implemented for product specific needs. If there are other customers that require such a specific behavior we will be glad to log it in our ToDo list.

Just a quick look and I found AIM, Yahoo, and IE and FireFox Bookmarks supporting this feature. It seems pretty standard for lists.
