Hi,

we own a "RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX+WinForms+Reporting" subscription.

While your Silverlight and WPF controls are still beta some of your competitors (like infragistics, xceed and so on) offer allready complete suites (even with charts and a lot more controls).

Our question is when and what we have to expect.
We are on some customer projects in WPF - Silverlight will follow.

We have some possibilities now:
a.) Buy a suite from a different vendor
++Available NOW (in Versions greater 1.x - so stable)
--We don't know them and have (almost) good experiences with you
--Extra cost - maybe!!
b.) Wait for you
++Well known things
++Extremly good Experiences with ASP Suite
++Good support (Except Winforms)
--Lots of problems with Winforms - maybe the same with WPF
--Donno when we get releases
--Donno what will be in or when we get (for an example) chart
??Save a lot of money --- if about 1.000 means a lot off :)

A primary question is if WPF and Silverligt will be included in the
"RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX+WinForms+Reporting" subscription.

And will the quallity stay on the ASP controls level or be as problematic as with Winforms (OK - question not answerable).

The thing with ASP - this was the first product we purchased - and we had (very little) problems - AND they have been solved very quickly.
With Winform there are a lot of problems - and some of them not solved over two releases!!!
Just a few things occuring to us:
Button - not working with "DialogResult"
TabPages - strange navi keys.
Panels - not copying all conctent (copy a well done panel to another form for an example).
Textbox - ShitTab does not work.
Listbox - problems in layout; no "Selected Item" like the Winforms LB.
Docking - Minsize ignored, FixedSplitters ignored
Combobox Dropdown overriding style set in designer.
AND SO ON

But I'll stop these things here.

In short words:
Will WPF and Silverligt be included in the
"RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX+WinForms+Reporting" subscription?
Will you provide (soon - or with release) Chart for WPF?
Do you have any idea about a release date?

Regards

Manfred

Hi Manfred,

I'll try to address the WPF/SL part of the story.

Let me start with the WPF release plan. We are busy right now shipping our first official release of the WPF control suite. The suite will contain the following controls: grid, carousel, calendar, date picker, numeric input box, treeview, slider, progressbar, panelbar. Right now we are in the middle of our last sprint, and the release will go live with Telerik's Q2 release due by the end of the month. RadControls for WPF will be included in the controls bundle.

As far as Silverlight is concerned, we will be officially releasing the suite shortly *after* Microsoft ships the official version of the plugin. We expect that to happen by the end of the summer. By the end of we will have a public preview build that will let you and others play with the controls, get a taste of what's coming and have the chance to provide feedback.

The Q2 release will contain another goodie. We call it the WPF "Futures" build. It will contain preview versions of our WPF Chart, Gauges, and Scheduler components. Those components are still "work in progress", but having them publicly available will allow us to check with customers if we are going in the right direction. The Chart, Gauges, and Scheduler components are planned to be released officially later this year -- with our Q3 release.

Sincerely yours,
Hristo Deshev

And about the license?
Will you include the WPF and SL controls for us that already have a "ASP.NET, WinForms and Reporting Subscription"???
I saw that you're giving a license, but only for new subscriptions ....

Regards,

Henrique

Update: Will have a MaskedTextBox?

Hi,

I'm a bit unsure about the last post.

To make it more clear.

We have a SD subscription license "RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX+WinForms+Reporting".

When WPF is out - will this be included in our license - or do we have to buy a new one for a different price, or?????

As soon as we release SL or WPF officially, every customer who has the all-inclusive license (ASP.NET / WinForms / Reporting) will get a matching number of dev seats and source for the two technologies. So, no need to plan for extra budgets:)

With regards to the quality of our WPF suite and its completeness - you'll be the judge but, as of July's release, I believe we will have one of the most complete suites on the market and you will be pleased with our work.

p.s. Manfred, almost all of your issues have been resolved in the latest releases. After a rocky start (I have to admit that we didn't nail some of the things from the start), the WinForms suite is looking good now and it's not different from the ASP.NET suite! Many great new things are coming and I hope you'll like what you see.

Rocky start sounds good :)

And may be it's the quality of ASP which made the winforms look a bit "not so well done".
Let's think about: I'v been used to your excellent ASP things so the other problem look worse than they are in reality.

Glad to hear about the bundeling - and looking forward for a (ASAP) complete suite of WPF controls.

Regards and thanks for the answer

I did not see a ComboBox in your list of WPF controls?  Are you going to provide a ComboBox in WPF/SL or not?  If not, why not?  Thanks, Simon

Hello Manfred, Simon,

I like to just to say a few a words about the problems you experience with the Windows Forms components. I want to assure you that we have escalated the priority of all issues you have been so glad to report. Most of them are already fixed or being addressed as we speak, including the problems you mentioned in this thread.

RadControls for Silverlight 2 will contain RadComboBox. You actually can try its latest CTP in action here:
http://www.telerik.com/demos/silverlight/#Examples/ComboBox/FirstLook

Since RadComboBox for Silverlight 2 was finished a week ago and still contains certain glitches, we decided to postpone its introduction in the WPF suite in order to polish it and get some feedback first. The WPF version will come in a next update of RadControls for WPF.

What features do you need in a third party combo box? I will be glad to hear your feedback and suggestions.

Best wishes,
Valeri Hristov (Silverlight Team)

Hi Vassil,

yesterday I came along on your site and found WPF is released.
The next step was to enter "my purchases" to find the download.

But there is nothing.
All I can find is an anouncement, that (if I by nos) WPF and Silverlight will be included for free.

Am I looking in the wrong place to find the download?

Regards
