When using IE, the print button does not work at all. Nothing happens.

In Edge, the print button initiates an export to PDF which provides the option to save the file or open it in Reader.

In Chrome, the button works as expected opening an Adobe print dialog.

Are there settings in the browser preventing the system print dialog? Is there some setting in the Report Viewer I can modify to make this work uniformly across all 3 browsers?

Hi Hannah,

In Html5 Report Viewer the printing functionality is based on rendering the report in PDF format with special settings so when the PDF file opens in a browser, the PDF plug-in's Print dialog is directly invoked. By default the viewer widget tries to use the PDF plug-in of the browser for printing. Hence, the printing will act browser-specific.
Check the Printing Reports article for more details.

Note that there are some requirements that should be met in order printing to work. I will list only IE specific ones (all are available in the above article):
- Print menu in IE group policy should be enabled.
- ActiveX Filtering should be disabled.

Note that indeed the settings of each browser (PDF plug-in) should be adjusted in order printing to work as desired.
There are no ReportViewer settings than can make printing work the same way in the three browsers.

Hi Todor,

I having exactly same issue as mentioned by Hanna, although i have applied all the possible setting suggested in multiple threads, including true print, adobe plug-in, etc.

The thing is that even the demo report is not working.

Can you suggest any specific restriction or permission which might be causing issue.

One more thing, the machine on which i am having this issue does not have Administrator Rights. Could this be an issue?

I have also followed instructions as per Printing Reports, but still no use.

Your prompt response will be of great help.

Hi Ahmed,

Is the problem reproducible also with our online demos?
The issue might be related to the environment where the IE is running. There might be policy/security settings that prevent IE from printing documents from unauthorized users. I suggest to check this with your administrators.

Todor,

Yes the problem is reproducible with your Online Demos.

I have even checked the network calls (From Developer Tools -> Network) made at the time of Print button press and they seems to be working fine too, but still no Popup for Print opens.

Can you suggest any specific security settings i should be looking at to making it work?

Regards,

Ahmed Khalid.

Hi Ahmed,

You could ask your administrators whether your user has permissions to print from IE.

We cannot reproduce such an issue on our side, and will need more information to try to replicate and investigate it.

What is the IE version that you use? If it is an old one, test to upgrade to the newest.
Test also if the issue occurs on another machine with non-restricted permissions, so that we get an idea whether the problem is related indeed to user restrictions.

You should Report Viewer the printing usefulness depends on rendering the report in PDF position with unique settings so when the PDF document opens in a program, the PDF module's Print exchange is legitimately conjured. As a matter of course the watcher gadget attempts to utilize the PDF module of the program for printing. Consequently, the printing will act program explicit.

Hi,

This used to work well on chrome as mentioned above but it recently stopped working. I'm not sure if is due to the browser updates or Telerik report viewer.
Please advise.

I also am getting reports of this issue. It used to work in Chrome without any issues, but now I can't get it to run in Chrome at all. In Firefox, it asks to create a PDF first, opens the PDF in Edge and allows me to print from there.

Telerik Report Viewer for MVC R2 2016 SP1. As you can tell I have not changed this in some time.

Hi all,

The described issue is known and is due to a recent update in Chrome. Check Print Dialog doesn't appear in Google Chrome 77.0.3865.75 bug report. It is fixed in version 13.2.19.918. With the fix, the PDF report document opens in a new tab and you need to click the print button to open the print dialog. Some workarounds for avoiding the additional click are summarized in the Print dialog doesn't open in Google Chrome 77.0.3865.75 KB article.

Hi Brendan,

This is a known issue that is logged in our public feedback portal as a bug - The Html5 Viewer Print button doesn't invoke the Print Dialog in the new Edge browser. We will address the issue according to its priority. I suggest voting for it, which will increase the priority of the work item.
