I've been using the Asp.net RadControls for years, but decided to use DevExpress for reporting for a major project of mine because at the time Telerik Reporting was only 1.0.  I see now that Telerik's reporting tool is much more robust, but when viewing all of the online demos at Telerik.com the report rendering is extermely slow.  The Report Book example takes over 40 seconds to render - which in my opinion is unacceptable.

Any thoughts on this?  Are Telerik reports really slow to render?  I know some of our more complex DevExpress reports render in seconds.

Hi Jeremy,

We do understand that the performance is important and take steps to improve the behavior of our reporting engine with every release. The ReportBook demo report consists of 4 fairly complex reports that on their own render in a decent fashion. However if you take a closer look at their datasources you would notice that two of them are bound to 121,000 data rows, so although they might appear as "not that complex" they have quite a lot of data being processed at the backend. If you feel that Telerik Reporting does not perform well enough I would encourage you to come back in a couple of months and check the progress we have made. We compare our products against the competition regularly and we're aware where we stand. So rest assured, we have you concerns in mind while working on the next version.

Best wishes,
Steve
