We have  reports designed in Telerik web report designer . Report will be displayed in HTML5 report viewer.  Report can be exported to excel. Issue is, while exporting, some cells in the excel are getting merged automatically.

Is there any way to prevent this?

Following is a sample report exported as excel from viewer. It has a header section and data populated in the detail section using table wizard. But in excel the marked cells seems like merged. Each table column need to fit in one column. Anything to do while designing reports?

Hello, Aneesh

To fix the merged automatically cells problem,  you can take a look at Merging Cells section in Design Considerations for the Excel Rendering for some design changes that may fix the problem.

Some of the main causes are :

  1. Improper or missing left/right alignment of report items. (most common)
  2. Internal unit conversion and rounding when the Excel worksheet is rendered.
  3. The Page Header of the report interferes with the exported columns in Excel. A horizontal page break (see Understanding Pagination) that splits a report item in two parts will result in an additional Excel column in the item.

Fixes for each cause:

  1. Make sure the left and right edges of all report items line up with one another. The alignment and applying the same width to report items will usually solve the problem.
  2.  In order to minimize conversion and the potential inaccuracy of rounding when converting inches and centimeters to points, consider specifying all measurements in points (one inch is 72 points).
  3. you need to make sure that the report physical page is wide enough to accommodate the entire report content so that there is no horizontal page break introduced.
