Before I download the beta, I was wondering if telerik reporting is going to support using RDLC report templates?

We've developed some in Visual Studio 2005 for use with the webform reportViewer control, and would like to avoid having to rebuild those.  Plus we have some customers that are building their own in Visual Web Dev Express.

Hi David,

As of now we do not support any other report formats. We're planning to add some kind of import/export functionality in a future version in order to simplify the migration from one report definition to other.

The reason we are interested in RDLC support is that we need to provide our more advanced end users with the ability to design their own reports, and anyone with a copy of the free Visual Web Dev. Express can design RDLC report templates.

Will your web version have a royalty free license for redistributing the design environment so end users (in our case we need this for aN ASP.NET 2 web application) can build their own reports?

Thanks!

Hi David,

We do not have a stand alone designer at this time. The current designer is in reality VS2005. Thus, we cannot provide a royalty free license for redistributing the design environment simply because we do not have such. We may offer a stand alone designer for a future version of the Reporting (v2 or v3), but the current version will not have such.

Please, download the reporting tool and give it a spin. We are sure that it will answer your questions right away.

Is the import/export functionality still in the works, if so, any timeframe on when it will be ready?

Thanks,

Jason

Hi Jason,

Generally speaking the RDL/RDLC format differs a lot from the Telerik reports. As you can see the Telerik report is divided into sections from different types and every section type has its specific meaning. In the opposite the RDL format doesn't define such sections but uses other data aware elements - List, Table, etc.

At the moment these differences plus other pending issues prevent us from specifying a precise release date or a version.

Kind regards,

Hi Team,
I am using Telerik Reporting Version 2009 2 807. Can I use RDLC in this version?
I can do everything in Microsoft Report Viewer except exporting of report in "MS-Word" or "RTF" format.

Kindly revert ASAP.

Thanks!

Hello BB Agrawal,

There is no support for RDLC files still because of the above-mentioned reasons. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Kind regards,
Chavdar
