Hi,
Our company is currently in the process of evaluating Telerik reporting and I had one question. I have line series graph with multiple line series. I want to show a vertical line marker on each line series at some predefined points. I am able to show the line series graphs itself but I don't know how to show these vertical line markers. Attached is a PDF that shows a line series graph and there are vertical dotted lines on each series. How do I show these vertical dotted lines on the graph? Is there some kind of datapoint conditional formatting that I can do?
Thanks,
Mandar

Hi Mandar,
I believe the data point conditional formatting won't be of much help for such customizations. The built-in functionality of the graph item doesn't offer such feature, but it is possible to generate the chart with another tool/product and then display it in the report using the PictureBox item.

Hi Hardik,
Thanks for your response. I am disappointed that Telerik doesn't allow such kind of data annotations on reports, my company is evaluating Telerik reporting tool and most other things seems to satisfy our needs except this one. If I have to use another tool to generate a bitmap of graph and then use that as PictureBox in reports then it might work but the quality of graph may not be as good. Does any one have any experience handling such situations? I will appreciate if someone can throw more insight.

Hello Mandar,
There is no built-in option to show custom markers inside the Graph item in the current version of Telerik Reporting. We have plans to improve the Graph item and would consider implementation of markers for a future version of the product.
You can use other chart controls (e.g. the RadHtmlChart, or a third party control) to generate the chart, save it to an image and use it via the PictureBox inside the report, as previously suggested in this thread. The PictureBox item supports only image formats supported by GDI+ (BMP, GIF, JPEG, EXIF, PNG and TIFF), so you need to save the chart image as one of those formats. For more information, please check the PictureBox help article.

Thanks for your response. Even though there are no custom markers isn't there a way to dynamically show straight lines on a LineSeries...may be by drawing another line series or using another set of data points? As you can see I am kind of desperate to get this working and even if it's not a optimal solution it would be ok for now as long as it's functional. (I don't like the idea of using an image because I don't think the quality would be that good because we want to be able to export report to PDF and that has to be vector based, obviously with image that's not possible)

Sorry just to be clear what I meant to ask was can I achieve marker like effect by using bar or area series in a LineSeries?

Hi Mandar,
What you can try is adding another line series and choosing Stepped as the line type. Then you customize this series to achieve some similar look to your request. For example you can group by the X axis values. Haven't tested myself but it sounds doable.

Hi Hardik,
That's what I did. Created another line series and assigned DataPointLabel on that one to "|" and changed its datasource to my marker datasource(I haven't tried changing line series type to stepped..may be I will try that too). That seems to do the job for me. It's not a perfect solution but does the job. Thanks anyways for your response...it has been helpful.
