I'm not sure if telerik was planning on providing some layout templates with reporting, but I ran into a need yesterday that could be perfectly served by reporting with templates.

Basically, it would be great if reporting came with templates for creating the report layout in a format that would print correctly on a number of different label sheets (Avery label sheets are usually used as the defining standard).

For example, in the reporting visual designer, I could select "Create New Report from Template..." and then pick "Mailing Labels (Avery XXXX)" and a new report would be created that would print my data in the correct format to fit a sheet of Mailing Labels. I would layout one "label", bind the report to my datasource, and then the report would "merge" my data when it rendered.

Anybody else out there think this would be useful? Is this doable telerik?

Thanks~

Thanks your sharing your idea, Todd.

We do have plans to offers templates and wizards in the next version of the reporting tool, however this will not happen in v1. We are not sure what exactly they will be as of yet, so any comments and suggestions on the topic are welcome.

Todd, I added some points to your account for the suggestion.

Sincerely yours,

Rob-

Glad to hear that templates will be eventually included. I'd definitely make the recommendation that support for "mailing labels" (or any label for that matter) is included. I ran across an old help page for Crystal Reports for .NET and noticed that even it supported "Standard Reports" and "Mailing Labels".

As for other templates, it would be nice to see templates that pre-allocate space for placing a summary chart on detail report (I guess I am assuming that Telerik Reporting will include support for charting in reports). Beyond that, just some nice "skins" or layout templates would be nice.

Thanks~

Thank you for the comments, Todd!

We will take them into consideration when designing templates. A flexible skinning mechanism is also a priority for us and I hope we will get some feedback on that once we are able to ship the first bits to MVPs and then to the community.

I am excited about the idea of Mailing Label templates, but I am wondering if you could provide Letter types, like business letters, etc, where the fields for address, name, title, etc. are already created and we just have to link them to the appropiate db fields.

That maybe sounds vaugue, so if you would like moe info just let me know.

---anyone using the CTP willing to provide any mailing label reports they have created.  I think we could all benefit...I know I could.

Thanks

What I would like to see is Report Creation Tool Box, similar to ASP.net tool box in the IDE where just just Drag and Drop you Report Control and just change  some properties and Voila!. No Java no VB code. For the professionals provide the ability to Extend those basic controls to produce more complex report such as dynamic data passing to the controls. Report Tool Box could contain: Label, Envelop, Letter, Invoices, Accounting Report, Grouping  Report, Newsletter, Postcards, Catalog Page(s) and a Rad Report Designer.

When? Yesterday.

Hello guys,

We will provide wizards for many kinds of letters/labels and other standard paper media in a later version of telerik Reporting. We are currently focused on the core functionality of the reporting tool, which will serve as a basis for all later developments. Thank you for the feedback, we will have your suggestions in mind.

Happy New Year!

All the best,

Hi Pierre,

Could you specify what kind of error did you receive during the installation? We need some more information in order to propose an adequate solution. A brief description of your computer setup (OS, SQL Server version, VS IDE version, etc.) will be highly appreciated.
