I have a Page with a list box. The List Box has been ajaxified. In the codebehind I have an if (listbox1.selected) statement but it never detects that an item has been selected.

Hi Colin,
I've been unable to reproduce the problem you describe. Find attached a sample page that shows our observations. Review it and let us know what differs in your case.
