Hi,

I'm still using the 2013 Q1 release of reporting.

With QR codes I generate them in my code using the aspx RadBarcode component and they work fine, if I save to a file I get nice sharp images.  When I pass them to a report for printing even if I choose to have no scaling on the image the resultant QR code on the PDF file is very fuzzy and doesn't scan as fast as it should - it still works just slower.

2 questions,
1) Does either the Q2 or Q3 release have native QR code functionality?  From what I can see it doesn't.
2) Assuming a no to the above, how would I go about getting a sharp qr code in a PDF report?

Regards

Jon

Hello Jon,

Currently QR barcode can be displayed in report after generating it as an image with another control or third party tool.

The PNG file generated by the RadBarcode control would be with resolution 96dpi and will be rendered with the same resolution in the PDF file. If the image is not sharp enough you can try using a user-defined function to load the PNG and scale it before setting to a PictureBox.Value in the report.

Let us know if you have any further questions.

Hi Stef,

OK thanks for that.

Any idea when native QR code generation will be available in the reports?

Hi Jon,

Extending the Barcode item to support QR barcode is not in our short plans. The QR barcode can be rendered as an image and displayed in the report, thus our focus is on covering other major features important for a reporting engine as visualizing data in charts, extending the support for Entity Framework and displaying reports with new platforms and technologies(e.g. MVC). Once we cover them or the demand for the QR barcode increases, we will shift up the task's priority.

We have been busy the last two years leveraging Telerik to create GHS compliant labels for the customers that use our product.  To that end the advancements that have been made to Telerik Reporting over the past two years, especially the addition of the stand alone designer, have been great to help us meet our design goals.

I understand that we all have to prioritize development decisions to fulfill the greatest need or most requested feature but I have to say that I am a little disappointed by this answer.  I am also surprised that at this point in time there is not more demand to be able to natively support the generation of a QR code on a report.  It seems like I am seeing QR codes everywhere these days.

I understand that there is a way that we can get a QR code onto a report by using another component to generate it but it makes it more difficult our customers to be able to use QR codes on their labels.  Rather than use the barcode control that can create every other barcode they are trying to use they have to place a picture box and go into the expression editor to leverage a document function that will dynamically generate the QR image to be displayed.  This just isn't as simple as leveraging the native barcode control.

Here is to hoping that more people express the need to add native support for QR barcodes so that the development gets a highest priority.

Hello everyone,

As of Q3 2014 Telerik Reporting supports QR code through its Barcode item - 2D Barcodes. more details about the settings are available in the QR Code Setting help article.
