Hi Telerik,

By testing your demos it seems like when right-clicking elements in RadEditor, that 'Set Image Properties', 'Image Map Editor', 'Set Link Properties', 'Set Cell Properties' 'Set Table Properties' etc. still isn't implemented - is this for real?

To add to the missing properties dialogs, my most used module - 'The Properties Inspector' is also missing, which makes it a little hard to set element properties...

I was really looking forward to the Q2 release with the new Prometheus version of RadEditor and especially the new Image control to crop, resize etc. images, which i have been wishing for for years. First the Image control was delayed (and not reschedule yet) and then when Q2 came out, the Editor had issues and missing features, so that it was no where near production ready. Now i have waited for the SP1, but still find all these features missing, which is really disappointing to me...

I have been a loyal (small) costumer for a some years, but my subscription is up for renewal soon, and to be honest i'm thinking about not extending, as i feel like the ASP.NET controls (which is the reason i subscribe) isn't getting as much time and dedication as they used too. This might be wrong, which i really hope, because you make the best controls on the web, and i hope you'll tell me that you have some good things coming, so i can't stop myself from renewing my subscription =)

Thanks in advance!

Hello Casper,

My name is Tervel Peykov and I am one of the people responsible for implementing RadEditor (the Prometheus and non-Prometheus version). I have to admit that your disappointment is fully justified - we were not able to deliver the editor Prometheus version to be equal to the non-Prometheus one, and despite the several additional features implemented for the service pack, there is still very important functionality missing especially when it comes to the dialogs.

Allow me to shed some light on what the Prometheus editor is all about, which I hope will lessen your justified frustration. The Prometheus version of the editor was not conceived as a simple port of the non-Prometheus editor to MS AJAX. In fact, quite the contrary - the Prometheus editor was clean-written from scratch to address all the fields which had proven problematic over time with  the non-Prometheus editor. Most of all we concentrated on greatly reducing the loading time, full integration with AJAX, easy deployment and better XHTML output. In the following forum thread I earlier outlined the ten major improvements of the new editor over the "old" one - http://www.telerik.com/community/forums/thread/b311D-baatdd.aspx

The service pack just released also adds the convenient AJAX Spellchecking (a serious challenge to port on its own), as well as three of the four editor modules. The module that you are most concerned about is currently on its way and will be ready literally within days. In fact I believe we can provide an editor download available immediately when the module is ready  - which is not a complete solution, but does provide 90% of the property editing abilities of the [table, cell and image] dialogs.

Once again - I understand your frustration completely, and I do not mean to say that we did well. What I am aiming at is that our focus was to lay out a very solid foundation for the new editor which was based on taking completely new approaches. To our credit I will say that those approaches proved successful - the new editor does perform and scale much better, and there are more speed gains coming. However, that said, over this solid foundation we were not able to lay out all necessary components on time.

Work on the dialogs, however, continues and we, too, want to have those out as soon as possible.

Hi

I am also experiencing lot of problems with the new rad editor.

When I add
<html>
    <head>
        <title>Untitled Document</title>
        <meta content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" http-equiv="Content-Type" />
    </head>
    <body>

    </body>
</html>

in the HTML view and when I switch to design view nothing works.

In firefox if the button is disabled when you click it just jumps to the top. Still haven't been fixed.

All these things are tested in http://www.telerik.com/DEMOS/ASPNET/Prometheus/Editor/Examples/Default/DefaultCS.aspx

I can understand why Casper is frustrated :-)

Cheers
Shane

Hello,

Shane:
1. The full-html issue that you report is already fixed, and the next editor update will work OK. A small correction only for other people reading the forum thread - the issue occurs in Firefox only.

2. In Firefox clicking on a disabled button when in Html or Preview mode does not cause the page to scroll. Scrolling occurs only if the disabled button is in Design mode. This is a minor issue that will be corrected as well.

Shaun:
The editor update will be officially announced, so you will get to hear about it. Some details remain to be cleared as of the exact form of the release and where to download it - but information will be provided once the update is out next week.

Best regards,
Tervel
