I wanted to confirm that this is either a known issue, or there is a workaround I can do in code?

Mac users running OS: Mac OS X 10.5.7 with Firefox: 3.5.1  report they only get page 1 of a multi page report when they use the reporting print button. Safari:  3.2.3 users report receiving an error message "Unable to perform the Print operation"

It is not critical since export to pdf is a workaround, but it happens to be my boss so if there is a way to fix it, I would like to...

Thanks.

[edit:  Same behavior of first page only when using the print button under Ubuntu 9.04.  We don't have any linux users currently so it doesn't matter to me, but thought I would add it to the list]

Hello Joel,

I've taken the time to test this on Mac OS X 10.5.7 with Firefox 3.5.1 and Safari 4.0.2. First we would like to note that the Web ReportViewer depends on the Adobe Acrobat Reader PDF plugin. You need it installed to take advantage of true print and not the browsers' printing capabilities.
We've tested with no Adobe Reader present and as suspected Safari did throw the error you mentioned because it is not "smart enough" to degrade gracefully to browser print, when Adobe Reader is not installed. Firefox did not have this problem and I was able to export and print from it just fine. Here we would like to note a second thing - the built-in print functionality basically exports the report to PDF and then opens up Adobe Reader's print dialog for printing. So in short printing and exporting to PDF is kind of the same thing.
Once we've installed Adobe Reader 9 on the machine, both Firefox and Safari exported and printed successfully. Third thing to note - installing Adobe Reader on Mac asks explicitly whether you would like to install the plugin for Safari, so in case you have not selected it, you should go to Adobe's Help --> Repair and select it.
Fourth thing to note is the "internal PDF support" under Mac, which allows you to "export to pdf" the page you browse. We suspect that this is the option your users/boss have selected, which would result in "exporting" the visible on screen page of the report only. You can easily tell if that is the case by opening the so called PDF and check if it contains the url of the page on top.

Kind regards,
Steve

For us it's still does not work in safari with adobe reader 9.4 installed.
We also get the following warnings:

Resource transfer was interpreted as a script, but with MIME type text / plain.
Ressource was interpreted as a document but transferred with MIME type application / pdf.

(Telerik.ReportViewer.axd)

With Google Chrome it doesn't work either.

I can't get it to work in Chrome and can't find an Acrobat Extension for Chrome to make it work.  Is there any way this could work AROUND the Acrobat plugin and just stream the file right to the printer?

Hello Ben,

Google Chrome with version 8 introduced a new Chrome PDF Viewer that is incompatible with Adobe's plugin. The Web Report Viewer uses the Adobe Reader's plug-in for the print functionality. Thus in order for the printing to work, you have to enable the Adobe's plug-in from chrome://plugins/ page, which automatically disables chrome plug-in as they are mutually exclusive.

All the best,
Steve

I understand that and I've disabled the Chrome PDF Viewer but I don't have an Adobe Acrobat PDF Viewer and can't find where to download or install one.  I have tried reinstalling Acrobat 9.4 and Acrobat X but neither install an Acrobat Viewer in Chrome on my Mac (latest version of Chrome (12.0.742.91) and OS X (10.6.7)).  I've searched the Chrome Plugins and Extensions sites.  i've searched the web and many people have this complaint.  http://goo.gl/zw3DC  Seems that Chrome doesn't have an Acrobat plug-in for Mac.  Is there any way your software could work around that at all?

Please advise.

Thanks!

Hi Ben,

It seems that you are correct. According to the threads below one of which is an official statement from Adobe, they do not provide PDF plug-in for Chrome on Mac:
  • http://forums.adobe.com/thread/854745
As our print depends on that plug-in, I am afraid that you would not be able to print directly from the viewer. You can however export to PDF and print from the file itself.
