Dear Telerik Team,

We are very disappointed to write this mail. We are using Telerik RadControls for ASP.NET since last 4 years, we were happy to use your controls except in some scenarios related to performance. Intermittantly at some extent it degrades its performance.

Considering above fact in mind still we were suppose to go ahead developing our new big and our dream product on internet. However we have been observing a very degradbale performance of new radcontrols on your demo site itself. We are also afraid to see comments on different sites by users on internet relates such low performance and quite confused what to do ?

And coming to us it is very important decision to select controls before starting developement, we cannot roll it back.

1. What is the cause new radcontrols degrades the performance ?
2. Are you going to work on this issue ? Is it a known issue ?
3. What is an alternative to overcome such performance issues ?
4. Will it work with same performance with cross browsers ?

I hope your honest reply will help me to arrive our decision whether to go ahead with RadControls ?

Best Regards,

Kiran

Hello,

Could you please be more specific and provide more information about the performance problems that you experience with the latest releases of RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX? For example:
  • Do you experience performance problems with the page load or with the responsiveness of the controls?
  • Which are the problematic RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX controls and Telerik live demos?
  • Do you experience performance issues with some specific control or with a subset of controls?
  • How many seconds does it coast to load the page with this control or controls?
  • Are there differences in the performance under the different browsers?
  • If needed your can provide a simple working project which demonstrates the problems and a video, so that we can examine it and provide suggestions how to improve its performance and responsiveness.

One of our top goals for Q2 2013 are to improve the performance of Telerik controls(loading, responsiveness and bug fixes) and the requested information above is very important for us to determine what the problems are so that we can research and fix them.

Straight to your questions:
  1. What is the cause new radcontrols degrades the performance ? - There are so many new features added to the latest builds of the controls so some of them load many scripts as well as the overall size of the RadEditor scripts is bigger than this of the earlier version. However the scrips are compressed and cached. That is why we still need more information about the problems that you experience so that we can handle and fix them.
  2. Are you going to work on this issue ? Is it a known issue ? - Yes, we will work and we should fix as many as possible bugs and improve the overall performance of Telerik RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX controls for the Q2 2012 release. We will provide also light rendering based on HTML5 and CSS3 for some of the controls.
  3. What is an alternative to overcome such performance issues ? - My suggestions to optimize the controls in the current version is to try the suggestions provided in the following articles:
Optimizing output, page load time and the overall performance of RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX,
    Working With Large Content
    and
RadEditor loads slowly (high CPU utilization).

You can further optimize the controls by enabling the CDN scripts or local CDN scripts.

  4. Will it work with same performance with cross browsers ? - the cross browser support is important for us and the improvements should cover all supported browsers.

I would like to thank you in advance for your feedback and help on improving the controls.

Best regards,
Rumen
