We are thing about to replace our current SQL ReportingServices solution with Telerik Reporting.

There are some questions left:
  • Feature Set of Chart:

Is the chart fully customable (Style)? We are now using Dundas Chart with custom colors.

  • PDF Output Quality

Which DPI settings is used for the export of charts and images to PDF?
I haven't found any DeveInfo settings for that.

Which DPI for charts?

Are for images the DPI settings of the images used?

  • PageHeader

Will be with the next release a possibility to add context sensitive data to the PageHeader, like a section title? (see http://www.telerik.com/community/forums/thread/b311D-ttkkg.aspx)

Is this release still due for mid of this month?

Thanks

Hi EricSch,

Telerik Reporting is a standalone reporting engine developed by Telerik and has nothing to do with SSRS. Telerik Reporting is not an add-on to SSRS, but an alternative. Having cleared that out, now onto your questions.

Is the chart fully customable (Style)? We are now using Dundas Chart with custom colors.

Yes. Telerik Reporting uses the charting engine of RadChart for ASP.NET. You can check its features and capabilities in the link provided.

Which DPI settings is used for the export of charts and images to PDF?

The PDF Rendering Engine preserves the DPI of the source image. At that point there is no way to control the image quality, but we will think about implementing such an option.

Which DPI for charts?

The current DPI of the system, usually 96dpi.

Will be with the next release a possibility to add context sensitive data to the PageHeader, like a section title?

You can use only the PageNumber and PageCount global objects in the Page Header/Footer and that is by design. We do not have plans to change that.

Is this release still due for mid of this month?

Yes.

Hi Ross,

Thanks for answering.

Soon? Any release date?

The current DPI of the system, usually 96dpi.
Bad, because with 96 dpi the charts are looking bad in a professional report. This seems to prevent us from using Telerik Reporting.

Somewhere I read, that the qualitiy of the chart output can be controlled via the 'Image Device Information Settings'.
Is this incorrect?

If refer to telerik's answer in this thread:

With the new version of Telerik Reporting and custom report items, is there the possibility to use for ex. Dundas Charts for SRSS ?

Hello EricSch,

I hope we will have the power to expose the chart resolution in the Chart report item for the release next week.

In order to understand the limitations of the page sections (not the report sections which are discussed in the mentioned forum thread) please see Report Life Cycle.

I am afraid but we will not get ready with the custom report item so the only valid way to extend the current report functionality is extending the available items - for example you may use the PictureBox item to render any image in your reports.

Best wishes,
Svetoslav
